Hi Gang

I purchased a new license for a 2nd computer last December and only now I'm ready to install it in a newly aquired machine. I still have the email from Malwarebytes (with a ticket number, reference number and license key), that was sent to me last December. Should I copy then paste the email to the new machine? Sorry for the late response and confusion.  Is it safe to establish an internet connection with no protection (while I'm trying to install the software)? (Or) is there someway to get the installation file sent to my current machine, then copy it to the new machine?  I was hoping I'd still have a few months left if I could activate it?

Thank You

Hi,

Thanks for posting in the Malwarebytes for Windows Help forum.

If you are having technical issues with our Windows product, please do the following:

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

  • For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
  • For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
  • For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

Spoiler
  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed.
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
  14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
  15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

Hello @CarpenterMate:

The computer in question will need to be connected with the Malwarebytes license server, via the Internet, to complete the license activation. IMHO, the installation, and license activation, would then offer the computer immediate and additional protections that the premium license has.

Perhaps copying the email to the 2nd computer would make it simple to enter the license key during the activation process. Copying and pasting the license key is perhaps the easiest and most accurate way to accomplish a successful activation. Just be careful not to paste any additional space characters before or after the license key.

Hello @CarpenterMate:

Although the system should never be allowed to block, or otherwise impede any domain ending in malwarebytes.com, mwbsys.com, etc, in particular the Internet path with the keystone license server is critically important to sustain the computer's Malwarebytes premium subscription. In a typical Windows® system, you need not make atypical efforts to activate and maintain the Malwarebytes for Windows subscription.

Hello @CarpenterMate:

I sincerely apologize if the extra information brought about confusion. Below are the procedures for activating the 2nd computer's subscription.

Activate your subscription in Malwarebytes for Windows

If you have not already setup an account in my.malwarebytes.com, with your 1st subscription, it is also strongly advised you do so now and also include your 2nd license. This will give you the ability to manage your subscriptions.

Thank you.

Hi again 1PW

To clarify; when I open your link entitled: 'Activate your subscription in Malwarebytes for Windows' I eventually see:

Activate your Profile

When you purchase a subscription from the Malwarebytes Online Store, an account is automatically linked to the email address you used to make the purchase. To activate your account: Find the invitation email we sent you. (and)  Setup your Malwarebytes Account ..

Since I'd rather not do any unnecessary searching for the proper URL, without protection, (and as acknowledged by you), I can simply copy and paste that particular 'invitation email '  to the new computer then navigate directly to the activation link/location.

Make Sense? Permissible? Practical?

Malwarebytes support staff are always patient and helpful! 😀

Thank You
