'Windows Firewall off' notification after installing Malwarebytes

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

After upgrading from malwarebytes 2.5 (I think it was), to the latest malwarebytes I got the above issue. I upgraded as the previous version as it wouldn't update. The newer version will update fine but now I keep getting this notification every time I restart my laptop, even though the windows firewall is on.  I've uninstalled malwarebytes now but still getting this notification. Tried the repair tool and system restore but this caused me further difficulties.

My laptop is back running now. But I am hoping someone can help me get rid of this notification and to also use a version of malwarebytes that won't cause me further problems hopefully. Version 2.5 will be fine if it will update.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi,

Thanks for posting in the Malwarebytes for Windows Help forum.

If you are having technical issues with our Windows product, please do the following:

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

  • For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
  • For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
  • For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

Spoiler
  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed.
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
  14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
  15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

No. It was just the free version that I was using.

I would turn off start with windows in the right click menu and then be sure to exit after scans.

Also be sure when trials get re-enabled to switch them off fast. You have 2 programs that conflict with Malwarebytes, Kaspersky and Surfshark.

I would  also recommend creating exclusions between Malwarebytes and Your AV to help prevent any possible conflicts or performance issues.  Please add the items listed in this support article to Your AV 's allow list(s)/trust list(s)/exclusion list(s) particularly for any of its real-time protection components and likewise add Your AV 's program folder(s) (likely located under C:\Program Files and/or C:\Program Files (x86)) to Malwarebytes' Allow List using the method described under the Allow a file or folder section of this support article and do the same for its primary data folder which is likely located under C:\ProgramData (you may need to show hidden files and folders to see it).

Thank you for the reply. Would it be easier for me to remove malwarebytes? I don't want to cause any problem on my computer.

I do have kaspersky installed as my AV, malwarebytes was used for scans when required.

If you do what I asked, Malwarebytes can safely be left installed to do scans when needed. When it has been exited, no active process are running.

The Free version does not have active protection so it will not conflict.

Okay no problem I will create the exclusions. I didn't do this before for malwarebytes what I had,it wouldn't update.

Can you elaborate on the first part about right click to not start with Windows and also how do i stop the conflicts with surfshark and kaspersky with malwarebytes.

Thank you again.

The exclusions and turning off the trial right away when it auto enables from time to time.

When you right click on the little icon in the system tray, you will  a checkmark on the option "start with windows" uncheck it there.

You will also see "Quit Malwarebytes" be sure you do that after each scan. Also when scanning, Do not use you computer for anything else during the scan.

Hi Porthos,

I haven't got the option "start with windows" when i right click on it in the system tray. Also no option here to quit malwarebytes.

I haven't done the exclusions yet, as if I can't do the above then I guess not everything will be correct for using it properly.

Also can I stop the trial options so that it doesn't enable me to it?

I'm still wondering should I uninstall this if I can't do the above.

Thank you.

This option isn't there, it's not in the system tray, If i right click on taskbar icon I get open properties on it? Is this any help or is it okay now as I have disabled as in previous reply.

Okay, I have added the exclusions. When I added the malwarebytes files to kaspersky av exclusions I have added them all on the page provided and selected "all components". Also added the kaspersky folder, surfshark 2 folders to malwarebytes allow list.

Is there anyway I can turn the trials off as I would like to be opted out of these?

Is there anything else Porthos?

Thanks again.
