Web sites blocked for malware and SSL errors

Recommended Posts

We are seeing cases where Malwarebytes real-time protection is blocking web sites hosted on a specific virtual server.  The sites have been scanned locally for malware and have also been scanned server side by the hosting provider. Each site scans clean.  After the first instance of the Malwarebytes warning, the sites then display an SSL error.

Using the Chrome browser, the error displayed is:
This site can’t provide a secure connectionasterglobal.com sent an invalid response.
Try running Windows Network Diagnostics.
ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR

Using Firefox, the error displayed is:
Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to www.dragonflyontheriver.com. SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length.

Error code: SSL_ERROR_RX_RECORD_TOO_LONG

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.

The sites load correctly in all browsers when Malwarebytes is not installed and disabling protection on  devices where it is installed also resolves the issue.

Example sites include:

asterglobal.com
advancedsleeve.com
dragonflyontheriver.com

Hello,

The block on asterglobal.com will be removed in the next database update. It was being blocked due to this URL path: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/url/9e2de7b7d1dd821e20ec6024254b7504b58fd594fac2fa491bd24baa8ce2a904

The other two domains you mentioned are not blocked. If you are seeing a block, please provide a log or screenshot so we can further examine.

Thank you
