Maurice Naggar Posted April 15, 2022 ID:1511530 Share Posted April 15, 2022 (edited) Please do a Clean Removal and reinstall of Malwarebytes for Windows. It will offer to install Privacy VPN but you want to decline that and simply click the top right X to quit that install. In your Downloads folder, open the mb-support-1.8.7.918.exe file In the User Account Control pop-up window, click Yes to continue the installation Run the MBST Support Tool In the left navigation pane of the Malwarebytes Support Tool, click Advanced In the Advanced Options, click the CLEAN button and follow the onscreen instructions to reinstall Malwarebytes NOTE: Please have patience as it can take a while to remove and reinstall. The computer will restart to complete After the restart please do the following Run the MBST Support Tool mb-support-1.8.7.918.exe In the left navigation pane of the Malwarebytes Support Tool, click Advanced In the Advanced Options, click Gather Logs. A status diagram displays the tool is Getting logs from your machine A zip file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your desktop, please upload that file on your next reply Edited April 15, 2022 by Maurice Naggar

Maurice Naggar Posted April 15, 2022 ID:1511535 Share Posted April 15, 2022 (edited) Regret your troubles. But it seems there is still some installation of Malwarebytes Privacy version 3.14.0.779 as well as Malwarebytes version 4.5.7.186. We will need to re-run some initial steps ( mainly the complete uninstall), and after that is done, a new install in a specific way. { by the way, you do not need to press the Quote link when you start a reply. I get notified when you make a reply in any event.} On your Downloads folder, open the mb-support-1.8.7.918.exe file In the User Account Control pop-up window, click Yes to continue the installation Run the MBST Support Tool In the left navigation pane of the Malwarebytes Support Tool, click Advanced In the Advanced Options, click the CLEAN button and at the point if offered to re-install Malwarebytes, reply NO So at that point, your machine should be exited out of the support-tool 1. Download the offline Malwarebytes for Windows installer from : https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb4_offline 2. Now, go to where the file was saved. Right-click on the mb4-setup-consumer-4.x.x.xxx-x.....exe and select Run as Administrator and allow it to go forward. Decline the install of Privacy ( since you do not have a license) 3. After the Malwarebytes for Windows is done with the setup. Start Malwarebytes. Click Settings ( gear ) icon. Next, lets make real sure that Malwarebytes does NOT register with Windows Security Center Click the Security Tab. Scroll down to "Windows Security Center" Click the selection to the left for the line "Always register Malwarebytes in the Windows Security Center". all the way to the Left for Off setting. Close Malwarebytes when done. This setting adjustment does not affect the Trial-mode protections of Malwarebytes. Jiichi Posted April 15, 2022 Author ID:1511537 Share Posted April 15, 2022 I can't turn it off, because it's only for premium. My premium trial period expired a few days ago
Maurice Naggar Posted April 15, 2022 ID:1511540 Share Posted April 15, 2022 What exact "error exception" do you see ? please be very specific. What is it you cannot turn off ? if it is the "register" for Windows Security then do not sweat that. Is Malwarebytes for Windows now installed & is it working ? Jiichi Posted April 15, 2022 Author ID:1511544 Share Posted April 15, 2022 I can't turn off "Always register Malwarebytes in the Windows Security Center" because it's only for premium. malwarebytes works but can't connect "update server" and "license server" or in other words, things that need connection to server don't work
Maurice Naggar Posted April 15, 2022 ID:1511549 Share Posted April 15, 2022 Let's put aside and forget about "always register" bit. For the latter issues, I am going to move this topic so I can guide you one to one.

Maurice Naggar Posted April 15, 2022 ID:1511554 Share Posted April 15, 2022 Be very sure to Save any work-files you have open at this point. Close & Save any open edits, if any. Next, a custom script to do checks & some cleanups. This is really just housekkeping. We will use FRSTENGLISH on the Downloads folder to run a custom script. The system will be rebooted after the script has run. This custom script is for JIICHI only / for this machine only. This custom script has some specific things, plus some general aspect to help the system overall. NOTE-1: This script will run a scan using System File Checker to check that all Microsoft operating system files are valid and not corrupt and attempt to correct any invalid files. . It will rebuild the Winsock. NOTE-2: It should remove the attempt to start Malwarebytes Privacy IF that is still listed as a auto-start. Please be sure to Close any open work files, documents, any apps you started yourself before starting this. If there are any CD / DVD / or USB-flash-thumb or USB-storage drives attached, please disconnect any of those. Please save the (attached file named) FIXLIST.txt to the Downloads folder Fixlist.txt <<< - - - - - Then, Start the Windows Explorer and then, go to the Downloads folder. RIGHT click on FRSTENGLISH and select RUN as Administrator and allow it to proceed. Reply YES when prompted to allow to run. to run the tool. If the tool warns you the version is outdated, please download and run the updated version. IF Windows prompts you about running this, select YES to allow it to proceed. IF you get a block message from Windows about this tool...... click line More info information on that screen and click button Run anyway on next screen. on the FRST window: Click the Fix button just once, and wait. PLEASE have lots and lots of patience when this starts. You will see a green progress bar start. If you receive a message that a reboot is required, please make sure you allow it to restart normally. The tool will complete its run after restart. When finished, the tool will make a log ( Fixlog.txt) in the same location from where it was run. Please attach the FIXLOG.txt with your next reply later, at your next opportunity.

Maurice Naggar Posted April 15, 2022 ID:1511562 Share Posted April 15, 2022 This custom script is for JIICHI only / for this machine only. Alright. Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted April 15, 2022 Root Admin ID:1511609 Share Posted April 15, 2022 Thank you, @Jiichi Is this a business computer? I see that it's running a Corporate only version of McAfee. This is not intended for home use. Was this computer taken home from work or how did this version of McAfee get on the system?
