Download speed is capped if "web protection" is active

Recommended Posts

Hi support,

I have notice that if the web protection is active, my max download speed is less then 30% of my download bw

I have an FTTH  connection 1000/500.

The first test is with protection disable and download speed is right, the second one run few second before have active again the web protection is around 670mpbs.

I have a 5 PC Premium license installed in different kind of PC with different CPU, RAM and storage, from i7 to i3, from 64Gb to 16Gb, from Pciex 4 NVME to SATA SSD, but all the system have the same issue.

If the web protection is active the max download speed is capped to around 670mbps, so the problem is not the hardware or the installation.

All system running Windows 10 with all update installed.

Hi,

Thanks for posting in the Malwarebytes for Windows Help forum.

If you are having technical issues with our Windows product, please do the following:

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

  • For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
  • For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
  • For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

Spoiler
  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed.
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
  14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
  15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

I see many variables here.

ESET

Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office

The Malwarebytes VPN is on s well.

Lets test wit the VPN OFF first.

I suggest you restart as well.

Hi Porthos,

as I wrote I have the same issue on different PC, I upload the log of my main PC but, I have the same issue on system that didn't have ESET, didn't have Acronis and all the system have the VPN set on OFF.

in any case, the speed test only depend if Malwarebytes web protection is on or off, as I declare with the speedtest, all other software that are running where I do the test didn't impact the speed test.

All other software installed on this PC for example didn't change or cause a donwload limit at the speedtest.

I also try to add speedtest.exe CLI tool to exclusion list of Malwarebytes but didn't change nothing.

Before going into this much deeper I would suggest the following.

Please check and verify what this file is for and that it's valid

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\rxymgmqo.sys

Go to Control Panel, Programs, Programs and Features and uninstall the following

Bonjour

Unless you have an Apple TV connected to your computer you really should not need Bonjour. Even if you did have an Apple TV I'm sure you could still probably make it work on a PC without Bonjour.

Then do a Clean Removal and reinstall of Malwarebytes.

  • Download the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • In your Downloads folder, open the mb-support-x.x.x.xxx.exe file
  • In the User Account Control pop-up window, click Yes to continue the installation
  • Run the MBST Support Tool
  • In the left navigation pane of the Malwarebytes Support Tool, click Advanced
  • In the Advanced Options, click the CLEAN button and follow the onscreen instructions to reinstall Malwarebytes
  • NOTE: Please have patience as it can take a while to remove and reinstall. The computer will restart to complete

Then try your testing again and let us know how that goes, please.

Try temporarily disabling Acronis Cyberprotection for your testing as well as disabling the Win10Pcap service during testing, as well as Radmin VPN

Thanks @Mamukata

Hi,

I can try to do what you suggest but, as I wrote, I sent my logfile from this PC because is my main PC, the other 4 system that have the same issue, didn't have ESET or Acronis or other kind of software installed.

I thinkt that, in any case and even if i have or not all this tool installed and running, why if I only enable or disable the "web protection" the download speed cap my bw?

I don't have a problem only on one system but on all my 5 PCs, that as I wrote are different from hardware and software installed, I can suppose that is not a software incompatibilty with MBM?

Are yuo agree with me?

In attach a fresh speed test performed one after the other the first with all feature enable the second where I only disable the "web protection"

Regards

Hi,

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\rxymgmqo.sys

this file is not present now on my system.

About Bonjour i don't have any Apple device so, I think that is installed beause some app need it as third part.

I try to do a speed test with and without Acronis Cyberprotection active and not impact to the download perfomance also for Win10Cap and also for RadminVPN (that I use in combo with Radmin Server that is a RDP soft tool)

Thank you, I am aware of what the tools are. I'm simply asking you to do a Clean Removal of all Malwarebytes software using our MBST tool.

The logs show this is still being referenced by a servcie on your system. If it's really not there then the service should be removed. C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\rxymgmqo.sys

Open an elevated admin command prompt and run the following command.

SC DELETE rxymgmqo

Then disable the other listed items as they might potentially be involved in curtailing the speed.

If you've not followed my advice exactly as requested then I'm not sure how to assist you and you may wish to open a support ticket and have one of the other support agents assist you via email.

I've done a lot of support tickets for slow issues and we were able to correct all but a few of them due to hardware issues.
