Hello

Had several McAfee (worthless) Artemis alerts, blocks and removals. After many scans, still there. Altered msconfig start up mode. The odd thing about that was when I tried to make changes to start up, it tells me I have to be logged on as admistrator, which I already am. Also made changes to regedit...

Found the location of the infected file in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32

qlpptyja.dll

Tried to delete it, access denied. Every blog I vist wants me to download a new program to try and remove it. I have done everything except turn off system restore and reboot in safe mode.

Can someone review to verify if this is still present? How can I get rid of qlpptyja.dll?

Hi,

I see you are running AdWatch.

I suggest you disable it because it can interfere with the fixes.

To disable AdWatch - * Right click on the Ad-Watch icon in the system tray and select to Disable Adwatch Live.

Then, First of all, please update MalwareBytes, because the databaseversion is outdated.

• Start MalwareBytes and click the Update tab. There click "Check for updates"
  
• Once the updates are downloaded, perform a quick scan again.
  
• The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  
• When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  
• The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  
• Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log, then we'll proceed from there with new steps.
  

Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediatly.

thanks for the quick response. Did you mean Ad-Aware? I don't have a program called Ad-Watch, but I do have Ad-Aware. There is option on Ad-Aware for Ad-Watch live which offers real time protection but I don't pay for that. When I tried to right click on Ad-Aware it does not give me an option to disable it, just exit Ad-Aware. Is this what I should do?

Yes, it's the Adwatch option in Ad-Aware. If you can't disable it (because exiting Ad-Aware won't help since it will restart again after reboot), I suggest you uninstall Ad-Aware for now. You can reinstall Ad-Aware afterwards again once we are done here. This to make sure it doesn't interfere with registry removal.

Reboot after uninstalling Ad-Aware.
