Hello

Just like many others here, I'm suffering from constant BSODs unless I turn off Web Protection in MB, which is really the main reason I got MB 4 years ago.

Ever since then, I've had MB and AVG run together without any issues, never a single BSOD caused by either program. But some time ago, I started experiencing BSODs that got more and more frequent over time to a point that I get multiple BSODs a day.

At first, this confused me since I hadn't installed anything new and I definitely didn't suspect MB to be the issue since it always worked fine. But after some digging and googling the BSOD stop codes like "ndu.sys" it became clear that it might be MB or AVG.

I've tested both and came to the conclusion that the problem is definitely MB while Web Protection is turned on.

I've done fresh installs of Windows on clean drives with all drivers updated and the newest versions of either Anti Virus, but alas. BSODs are still happening.

I'm a little desperate at this point. I've been a happy user of this program for many many years and always felt secure due to the Web Protection feature, but now that it's been turned off for so long, it almost feels pointless to continue paying for it.

Hope something some day can be fixed so it just stops causing BSODs all together..

I've done the support tool and other troubleshoot applications in the past and no one from this forum or customer support was ever able to help or resolve any issues. I just hope this gets fixed somehow, because it's definitely a problem on MB's end and not the user's end, as so many people have the same issue.

- Marty

Hi,

Thanks for posting in the Malwarebytes for Windows Help forum.

If you are having technical issues with our Windows product, please do the following:

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

  • For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
  • For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
  • For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

Spoiler
  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed.
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
  14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
  15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

@Maarty

You issue is probably using AVG with Malwarebytes. This was also mentioned to you back in July.

Please refer to this support article which lists several known applications which conflict with the Web Protection in Malwarebytes currently, which includes AVG products.

We also asked you back then to do the following so please do this now.

Please do the following so that we may take a closer look at your installation for troubleshooting:

NOTE: The tools and the information obtained is safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.

  • Download the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • In your Downloads folder, open the mb-support-x.x.x.xxx.exe file
  • In the User Account Control pop-up window, click Yes to continue the installation
  • Run the MBST Support Tool
  • In the left navigation pane of the Malwarebytes Support Tool, click Advanced
  • In the Advanced Options, click Gather Logs. A status diagram displays the tool is Getting logs from your machine
  • A zip file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your desktop, please upload that file on your next reply

Thanks

Apologies, I did indeed not reply last year because I got locked out of my account and asked for the same thing through another account, but now I'm back here and.. yes, it's a little confusing.

But to come back to the issue at hand, I don't think it's an issue with AVG necessarily. I really want it to be, because that would answer some questions, but after a few clean installs of Windows and after I only install MB, I continue to get BSODs as long as Web Protection is turned on.

AVG is installed right now, so I can't test and see if the last time it happened without AVG was caused by MB or if it was a random BSOD unrelated to either.

Anyway, I was about to attach the zip with the logs to this post, but I see in several .txt files that many applications that I use are listed and even that my full name is listed in multiple places. I'm not sure how I feel about the privacy thing you just mentioned.

In THIS section of the forum, Only authorized people can access the logs. They are not public.
