Hi!

My name is Srijan. So, I got a little too excited and installed malicious game hacks months ago. After donwloading and installing 3< files. I realized what I had done. But I did not care at the moment i dont know why. I got hacked a few days after. It was just a simple attack but the malware added a malicious extension to my chrome. My instagram was hacked but the attacker only increased the number of people I was following. I just changed the passwords that day because I dont know why, I did not care. I got hacked again on november 21, 2021. Again, did not care and just changed my passwords. After a few days it hit me that I really did have a backdoor or malware in my system. Days and days I tried to find it and asked many tech specialists. I even installed Kaspersky's trial version and scanned but no results were returned. I at last cleaned my windows and installed it again with the media creation tool ISO.I installed my new antivirus and set up my computer completely. The sense of relief that there is no malware left in my computer was flowing throughout my brain. I connected my removable storage after I resetted my computer completely and then after a few minutes my google chrome resetted. All google accounts got logged out. It was not even the session expired thing. There was no sign left of my gmail accounts. I thought this was pretty suspicious and asked my mentor about it. He assured me that it was just chrome crashing and I had nothing to worry about. But i still needed answers. Why was no results returned in the scan I did in December when I am 100% sure I installed malware. What if the undetectable malware shifted it to my removable hard drive (which has a lot of important data so i cant format it) and now its back into my system.

I would appreciate the help very very much.

Regards ~

Srijan

Hello @srijann and :welcome:

Let's start off by having you do the following and we'll go from there. It's a bit late for me just after 10PM so not sure how much longer I'll be online but if you get done soon I'll try to take a look at your logs tonight, otherwise tomorrow.

Please run the following steps and post back the logs as an attachment when ready.
Temporarily disable your antivirus or other security software first. Make sure to turn it back on once the scans are completed.
Temporarily disable Microsoft SmartScreen to download software below if needed. Make sure to turn it back on once the scans are completed.
If you still have trouble downloading the software please click on Reveal Hidden Contents below for examples of how to allow the download.

Hi! I did what you asked me to do. I downloaded and installed mb but at first it froze at the free trial page. I waited for a few minutes and then ended the process from task manager. I opened it again and it worked fine. I ran a scan and then I got 3 threats.

Yes, Malwarebytes will only need to reboot if a file is locked from removal.

Please temporarily uninstall the following program.

McAfee® Total Protection

Then run the Farbar tool again and click on SCAN and get me a new set of logs.

  • FRST.txt
  • Addition.txt

Thank you @srijann

Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop or location where you ran FRST from.
NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST or FRST64, and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

Please make sure you disable any real-time antivirus or security software before running this script. Once completed, make sure you re-enable it.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system that cannot be undone.

Run FRST or FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt) or wherever you ran FRST from. Please attach or post it to your next reply.

Note: If the tool warned you about an outdated version please download and run the updated version.

NOTE-1:  This fix will run a scan to check that all Microsoft operating system files are valid and not corrupt and attempt to correct any invalid files. It will also run a disk check on the restart to ensure disk integrity. Depending on the speed of your computer this fix may take 30 minutes or more.

NOTE-2: As part of this fix all temporary files will be removed. If you have any open web pages that have not been bookmarked please make sure you bookmark them now as all open applications will be automatically closed. Also, make sure you know the passwords for all websites as cookies will also be removed. The use of an external password manager is highly recommended instead of using your browser to store passwords.

NOTE-3: As part of this fix it will also reset the network to default settings including the firewall. If you have custom firewall rules you need to save please export or save them first before running this fix.

The following directories are emptied:

  • Windows Temp
  • Users Temp folders
  • Edge, IE, FF, Chrome, and Opera caches, HTML5 storages, Cookies and History
  • Recently opened files cache
  • Flash Player cache
  • Java cache
  • Steam HTML cache
  • Explorer thumbnail and icon cache
  • BITS transfer queue (qmgr*.dat files)
  • Recycle Bin

Important: items are permanently deleted. They are not moved to quarantine. If you have any questions or concerns please ask before running this fix.

The system will be rebooted after the fix has run.

Hello I will do what you asked but I have some queries. Am I infected or not now and what are the files that will be deleted permanently.

Thank you @AdvancedSetup

I don't know if you're directly infected or just have unwanted items. That's why we're cleaning up your computer and continuing to scan for issues.

The items that will be permanently deleted are those listed above. For clarity I've listed them again below.

The following directories are emptied:

  • Windows Temp
  • Users Temp folders
  • Edge, IE, FF, Chrome, and Opera caches, HTML5 storages, Cookies and History
  • Recently opened files cache
  • Flash Player cache
  • Java cache
  • Steam HTML cache
  • Explorer thumbnail and icon cache
  • BITS transfer queue (qmgr*.dat files)
  • Recycle Bin

Generally speaking all of these files are not needed and those that are needed will be downloaded again by their programs.

Hi. Sorry for the late response but I did what you asked me. I first checked for updates on FRST and then when it finished checking for updates, I pulled out the LAN wire just to be safe. Was it safe? Here is the log anyways.

The logs show that you did not uninstall the McAfee Antivirus as requested. @srijann

Please go to Control Panel, Programs, Programs and Features and temporarily uninstall McAfee Antivirus.

Windows 10 already comes with Windows Defender which already often gets better scores than McAfee Antivirus so your system will be protected without it while we work on your computer.

McAfee makes a tool to help you remove the product as well

Once McAfee has been removed, please download a new copy of the FIXLIST.txt file and run it as before please.

Thank you

When downloading with some browsers you may see a different style of screens that may block FRST from downloading. The program is safe and used hundreds of times a week by many users.

  • Once installed then open Malwarebytes and select Scan and let it run.
  • Once the scan is completed make sure you have it quarantine any detections it finds.
  • If no detections were found click on the Save results drop-down, then the Export to TXT  button, and save the file as a Text file to your desktop or other location you can find and attach that log on your next reply.
  • If there were detections then once the quarantine has completed click on the View report button, Then click the Export drop-down, then the Export to TXT  button, and save the file as a Text file to your desktop or other location you can find and attach that log on your next reply.

Then click the Export drop-down, then the Export to TXT  button, and save the file as a Text file to your desktop or other location you can find and attach that log on your next reply.
  • If Malwarebytes won't run then please skip to the next step and let me know in your next reply that the scanner would not run.
