Draw over other apps permission on Android Go

Recommended Posts

Hi,
I have a device using Android Go 11 with Malwarebytes, because of the "Go" version, the "Draw over other apps" function is disabled which means no apps can use it. However, Malwarebytes keeps saying that there is 1 critical issue that I need to enable it in "Draw over other apps" so that it can help me in case of ransomware attacks. Basically the critical issue chart is kinda annoying and sometimes it sends notification to warn me abt to solve issue. So is there anyway to remove the issue from the app? Idk if the devs have known abt this and should add some exception for the android Go versions.

Hi @aaron_nguy3n,

Well shoot, I guess you can't.

I can see how that could be annoying.  I'll inform our dev team about this feature request.  You can also let Google know you like the draw over feature added to Android GO: Settings->About phone->Send feedback about this device.

Thank you so much for announcing to the dev ^^
Google has disabled this feature since android Go 10 and now Go 11 and they also reply in their help forum that they won’t enable it T_T

What happens if you click the "hamburger" menu in the top left corner of the dashboard, then go to Settings -> Protection and uncheck the "Anti-Ransomware protection" box? If Android GO does not allow apps to draw over other apps at all, I think that should mean that you wouldn't need that particular feature, and turning it off may prevent that from being flagged as an issue.

Even if I turn it off, the app still ask to turn on the feature :(

Hi @aaron_nguy3n,

According to the Kaspersky's Google PLAY description, they "scan" for ransomware, but no reference to any anti-ransomware technology.  I'll say from my experience researching ransomware that it's a little tough to scan for anything when the screen is locked from ransomware.  Thus why we have anti-ransomware technology.  We can draw over the ransomware's lock screen to guide you through how to remove.
