Accidentally downloaded some darn malware/pop ups. In the right hand corner of the screen, it will say "virus deteced" and to click here to remove...then sometimes it will show a McAfee symbol or Norton Anti Virus. I have run the Malwarebytes to try and get rid of it, but it doesnt detect it. I cant get it to go away. I have the premium edition of Malwarebytes but still no luck. Thanks

When downloading with some browsers you may see a different style of screens that may block FRST from downloading. The program is safe and used hundreds of times a week by many users.

STEP 01

  • If you already have Malwarebytes installed then open Malwarebytes and click on the Scan button. It will automatically check for updates and run a Threat Scan.
  • If you don't have Malwarebytes installed yet please download it from here and install it.
  • Once installed then open Malwarebytes and select Scan and let it run.
  • Once the scan is completed make sure you have it quarantine any detections it finds.
  • If no detections were found click on the Save results drop-down, then the Export to TXT  button, and save the file as a Text file to your desktop or other location you can find and attach that log on your next reply.
  • If there were detections then once the quarantine has completed click on the View report button, Then click the Export drop-down, then the Export to TXT  button, and save the file as a Text file to your desktop or other location you can find and attach that log on your next reply.
  • If the computer restarted to quarantine you can access the logs from the Detection History, then the History tab. Highlight the most recent scan and double-click to open it. Then click the Export drop-down, then the Export to TXT  button, and save the file as a Text file to your desktop or other location you can find and attach that log on your next reply.
  • If Malwarebytes won't run then please skip to the next step and let me know in your next reply that the scanner would not run.

STEP 02

Please download AdwCleaner by Malwarebytes and save the file to your Desktop.

  • Double-click to run the program
  • Accept the End User License Agreement.
  • Wait until the database is updated.
  • Click Scan Now.
  • When finished, if items are found please click Quarantine.
  • Your PC should reboot now if any items were found.
  • After reboot, a log file will be opened. Attach or Copy its content into your next reply.

RESTART THE COMPUTER Before running Step 3

STEP 03
Please download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). If you've, run the tool before you need to place a check mark here each time
  • Please attach the Additions.txt log to your reply as well.
  • On your next reply, you should be attaching frst.txt and additions.txt to your post, every time.

Thanks

Due to the age of the computer, it is unlikely there are any BIOS / UEFI updates.

BIOS: Dell Inc. A04 04/03/2014
Motherboard: Dell Inc. 02YRK5

What is the model name and number?

Is it a laptop or desktop?

I would probably just disable this. There is nothing new coming from a 2014 computer.

Dell Digital Delivery Services

You're running BitTorrent Inc which is rather dangerous to your data lately. We're seeing more and more users getting all their data encrypted by Ransomware which in most cases is impossible to decrypt.

The logs show that the system is running one or more P2P torrenting programs.

The act of torrenting itself is not illegal. However, downloading and sharing unsanctioned copyrighted material is very much illegal, and there is always a chance of getting caught by the authorities.
Torrenting non-copyrighted material is perfectly fine and is allowed. We have seen an increase in malware being bundled with software downloads over P2P.
Please keep in mind when sharing files that you're increasing the risk that your system might get infected. Scan all files prior to running them.

It really would be best to discontinue using Torrenting software but the choice is yours. Make sure you have good, solid backups of all your data.

There are multiple policies that appear to have been set on the computer. Did you set these yourself? Normally you don't see this many policy additions, changes.

It's up to you but I'd recommend temporarily uninstalling Webroot SecureAnywhere then using Farbar to do some clean up of the system. Then if wanted reinstall Webroot SecureAnywhere

Please let me know how you'd like to proceed

Thanks

Hello, I did uninstall the Java program you mentioned. I also uninstalled the UTorrent. The pop up ads are still coming up in the bottom right hand corner of my computer. Things like "buy Norton anti-virus press here...or your computer is infected buy McAfee here.....McAfee renewal notice, system alert....etc...

Hello...you are really smart with computers!
I turned off the push notifications and those ads were still popping up!
BUt then I saw a long list of websites listed that were "allowed". I saw at the bottom of this list some weird site from YouTube and GoMusic. I was not familiar with those. I deleted those off the allowed "push list" and all of sudden those stupid ads disappeared for good!
