I have problems with the PUP.Oprional.Legacy. Malwarebytes Premium is not capaable to identify and remove the object. The object PUP.Oprional.Legacy affects the magnify accessibility feature, which I use because i have subnormal vision problems. PUP.Oprional.Legacy causes WhatsApp Web malfunction and mouse hijacking. Malwarebytes SupportTool and Malwarebytes Browser Guard will not fix this problem..

Malwarebytes AdwCleaner identifies and removes PUP.Oprional.Legacy, but not permanently. These problems keep bothering me.. Is it possible to solve this problem without formatting the PC?

Hello @bediascruz and :welcome:

My name is MKDB and I will assist you.

  • Please follow the steps in the given order and post back the logs as an attachment when ready. Thank you very much for your cooperation.
  • Temporarily disable your antivirus or other security software first. Make sure to turn it back on once the scans are completed.
  • Temporarily disable Microsoft SmartScreen to download software below if needed. Make sure to turn it back on once the scans are completed.
  • As English is not my native language, please do not use slang or idoms. It may be hard for me to understand.

Step 1

  • Please download the Malwarebytes Support Tool (MBST).
  • Run MBST.
  • In the left navigation pane of MBST, click Advanced.
  • In the Advanced Options, click Gather Logs. A status diagram displays the tool is Getting logs from your machine.
  • A zip file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your desktop, please upload that file on your next reply.

Thank you for your patience @bediascruz.

Ok, there are some leftovers of Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUP) on your system that we will remove (Step1).

Moroever, I would like you to reset Google Chrome (Step2).

Finally, we will do another new scan with FRST (Step 3).

After that, we will have to do some more things.

Thank you!

I have a question:

What can you tell me about this software? What is it for?

Warsaw 2.23.1.1 64 bits (HKLM\...\{20E60725-16C8-4FB9-8BC2-AF92C5F8D06D}_is1) (Version: 2.23.1.1 - Topaz)

Step 1

  • Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the location where you ran FRST from ( C:\Users\Narendra Sadhana\Downloads\ ).

Note: It's important that both files, FRST and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

  • Close all open programs and save your work.
  • Run FRST again.
  • Press the Fix button only once and wait. Please be patient.
  • If the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
  • FRST will create one log now (Fixlog.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please attach this logfile to your next reply.

Step 2

Please follow these two instructions and reboot your system:

https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/258886-chrome-secure-preferences-detection-always-returns/

https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/258938-resetting-google-chrome-to-clear-unexpected-issues/

Step 3

  • Run FRST again.
  • Do not change any settings.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • FRST will create two logs now (FRST.txt + Addition.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please attach these logfiles to your next reply.

Hi, MKDB
Your new instructions confused me.
Please let me know if FRST is the same MB SupportTool.
The buttons you refer to perform actions are not present in the MB SupportTool tool, leaving me confused when performing the steps described by you.

About your question, Warsaw 2.23.1.1 64 bits is an App provided by a reliable banking institution, used in Internet Banking operations.

Your efforts have already made me understand that the CAUSE of the problem is Google Chrome.
When I disabled synchronization the problem got better after running MB SupportTool again.

Please clarify the points that I have doubts and I will follow the process until the end.
I am delighted with the possibility of this learning.
Thanks.

Hi,

Sorry for the confusion @bediascruz! 😅

I've forgotten a little explanation for you:

The last time you ran Malwarebytes Support Tool (MBST), it downloaded FRST (= Farbar Recovery Scan Tool) into your download folder.

FRST is a different analysis/removal tool that you can find under C:\Users\Narendra Sadhana\Downloads\FRSTEnglish.exe.

You have to use FRST for Step1 and Step3.

No need to run MB Support Tool so far. We should be able to fix your problems with FRST and Google Chrome reset.

Thank you again!

Hi again,

I would like you to run another fix with FRST. We are going to check windows system files. If they are damaged, they will be repaired (Step1). This may take some time (>30 min), please be patient.

Moreover, I want to run another tool from Microsoft to check your system (Step2).

Step 2

The Microsoft Safety Scanner (MSS) is a free Microsoft stand-alone virus scanner that can be used to scan for & remove malware or potentially unwanted software from a system.

  • The download links & the how-to-run-the tool are at this link at Microsoft.
  • Please let me know the results of this scan.
  • Run a Quick Scan.
  • The log is named MSERT.log.
  • The log will be at%SYSTEMROOT%\debug\msert.log which in most cases is

C:\Windows\debug\msert.log

  • Please attach that log with your next reply.
  • Reboot your system.

I have a question to you @bediascruz:

How is your system running now (after Step2)? Do you still have problems with chrome?

Thank you again for your cooperation!

The problem we are dealing with only affected Web Browsers when they connected to the Internet. With the exception of this problem, the system worked perfectly.
Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers were the most affected. The problem affected Mozilla Firefox very little.
Before running these last few procedures, Microsoft Edge still had problems. Now ALL installed Web Browsers have returned to work WITHOUT PROBLEMS.
For your notes, I inform you that when you reset Chrome, the PUP object. Optional.Legacy IMEDIAYAMENTE ceased to be reported by Malwarebyte AdwCleaner., as Malwarebyte Premium did not detect it, stating that the System was completely protected.

   Gratitude for your precious collaboration.
Thanks.

Hi @bediascruz,

I assume that this detection "PUP.Optional.Legacy" seems to be a false positive here. Maybe @jboursier wants to have a look at it.

Can you run a final fix with FRST using the attached fixlist and attach the new fixlog.txt, please?

Thank you in advance!

Have a great sunday!
