Youtube ads sometimes get stuck in a loop

The loop happens approx 10 times in a row for the same ad until it fails and stops (it plays 1 second of the ad and restarts the ad)

Safari 15.2 (also older versions too) and extension 1.0.7

Hello @Chas4:

It would be ideal to be able to recreate the issue for the staffers/developers.

  1. What is the Mac's hardware Model Identifier? e.g. MacBookPro11,3 MacBookAir6,2 etc.
  2. What version of macOS is in use? e.g. 10.15.6, 11.6.1, etc.
  3. Please document an example of a very recent YouTube URL with an ad that has/will loop(ed).
  4. Will the issue repeat if Malwarebytes Browser Guard (MBG) v1.0.7 is disabled or partially disabled?
  5. Are any other vendor extensions installed along with MBG in Safari 15.2?

Thank you always for your assistance.

Model does not matter here

11.6.2

Any Youtube video can trigger it

There are no other compatible extensions in Safari

Unfortunately several people have tried and are unable to reproduce this issue.

It does not happen every time.

I see it every so often still, temp work around is to reload the page when it happens

Unfortunately it's part of the YouTube cat & mouse game with Ad blockers.  We are working on a fix we hope to submit on Monday.

In the meantime you can turn off the Ads/Trackers toggle for YouTube in the Browser Guard extension dashboard if it's problematic.  This will allow you to continue blocking Ads & Trackers on other sites.
