I keep getting a "Threat blocked" notice from AVG

This started around an hour ago, where AVG randomly gave me a notice telling me it blocked a threat from wpad. But I can't figure out where that malware is coming from, or how to stop it, I haven't downloaded anything recently, other than word documents and pdfs for university. Can someone pls help me get fix this?( there is an option to create an exception for these but I'm not sure that's the best thing to do)

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

• For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
• For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
• For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
   • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
   • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
   • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
   •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
   • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
7. Upon completion, click OK
8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
11. Click the Yes button to proceed. 
12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

i was unaware that malware bytes was a software, I found it while trying to find fixes for my issue. I am installing it right now though

Malwarebytes is a competitor to AVG and all the other AV software.

Did you install Malwarebytes?

You need to remove AVG as it will conflict with Malwarebytes in many cases

Okay I uninstalled AVG, installed MalwareBytes, and scanned, everything seems to be fine. But i'll give it some time to see if I get any similar reports.

Just a heads up in case you don't already know this.

AVG offers real time protection.  Malwarebytes Free does not offer real time protection.  Malwarebytes Premium does offer real time protection.  So if you want real time protection you have to buy a paid copy of Malwarebytes.

 I was thinking of just depending on windows defender, because AVG uses up a lot of ram(same thing with Avast), while MalwareBytes uses up 100% of my CPU when I do scans. What would you recommend? I don't really download anything from sketchy websites, I have a few games installed from Steam and Epic Games.

That is what it is supposed to do, when the scan is not running it hardly uses CPU.

Personally, I do Windows Defender and the paid version of Malwarebytes. When set up correctly it is an excellent combination.

That is probably fine.  A lot of people use just Defender and the paid version of Malwarebytes.  Personally, I use Norton 360 and the paid version of Malwarebytes.

I believe you can change a setting which makes the scan less impactful if you want.

Personally I always leave this set as in the screen image above.  Doesn't seem to cause me any problems.

That is the case with manual scans, with scheduled scans the impact is not as great, you hardly notice its scanning in the back ground.
