Support stating, I've used bunch of unlicensed devices in the past

Hey there,

recently I received a mail from malwarebytes support, stating, that I have been using Malwarebytes Tools on several devices over the last few years.
They want me to backlicense a bunch of devices for the last 5 years, even tho i know, that we haven't been using it before september 2021.

As I am 100% certain, that we did not use or install any malwarebytes tools within the last few years, I am very skeptical about this claim.
They sent me a visualization, which showed around 25 to 80 devices per year where malwarebytes was allegedly used on.

When I asked for a complete device list, incl. FQDN to verify these information, I did receive a list of machine id entrys and timestamps, but these information doesn't even match the amount of devices, that were stated from your end before. (e.g. I was told, we used malwarebytes on 25 devices in 2020, but the list, I received only shows 2 different entries for 2020)

I mentioned this inconsistency, but only got a response, that all of these data is verified and undoubtedly correct and didn't provide any more details.

 

For me the whole issue seems to be quite shady.
Is this the expected behavior in such cases?
Is it usual, that you do not provide me with more details on the devices usage?
