R2D21962 Posted November 20, 2021 ID:1489265 Share Posted November 20, 2021 Sometimes I have to switch Privacy "OFF" because certain websites and espacially video streaming don't like VPNs. Sometimes I forget to turn my Privacy back "ON" but I do shut down my computer "OFF" every night. Privacy is set in auto lauch and auto connect in settings but doesn't work when computer is turned "OFF" and "ON" again? What's the use in having an auto lauch and an auto connect when the computer turns back "ON" if it doesn't work? Link to post
Porthos Posted November 20, 2021 ID:1489269 Share Posted November 20, 2021 (edited) You need to turn off fast start in Windows. By default, Windows does not actually shut down when you tell it so. It only goes in to a hybrid sleep. https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4189-turn-off-fast-startup-windows-10-a.html If doing the above does not work, we need logs to assist. Please do the following so that we may take a closer look at your installation for troubleshooting: NOTE: The tools and the information obtained is safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system. Download the Malwarebytes Support Tool In your Downloads folder, open the mb-support-x.x.x.xxx.exe file In the User Account Control pop-up window, click Yes to continue the installation Run the MBST Support Tool In the left navigation pane of the Malwarebytes Support Tool, click Advanced In the Advanced Options, click Gather Logs. A status diagram displays the tool is Getting logs from your machine A zip file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your desktop, please upload that file on your next reply Thanks Edited November 20, 2021 by Porthos Link to post
R2D21962 Posted November 20, 2021 Author ID:1489270 Share Posted November 20, 2021 I shut down the computer "OFF" completely at night so Windows should also close completely, not go into a hybrid sleep. Link to post

Sorry, but if you do not disable fast start, it does not and has not since Windows 8. Link to post
R2D21962 Posted November 20, 2021 Author ID:1489273 Share Posted November 20, 2021 So because Windows stays in hybrid sleep, that stops my Privacy VPN not to auto lauch and auto connect when I turn the computer back "ON" even if it is selected in my VPN settings? Link to post
Porthos Posted November 20, 2021 ID:1489274 Share Posted November 20, 2021 Just now, R2D21962 said: that stops my Privacy VPN not to auto lauch and auto connect when I turn the computer back "ON" even if it is selected in my VPN settings? Yes, Since the computer never actually turned off, the VPN is still in the state you left it "off" Link to post

R2D21962 Posted November 20, 2021 Author ID:1489278 Share Posted November 20, 2021 You did not answer my question fully, how is this going to affect my computer start-up and by the way this non VPN connection issue only started happening when the last Window update was installed. Before, I had no problems, has the auto-lauch and auto connect were working fine. Link to post
Porthos Posted November 20, 2021 ID:1489279 Share Posted November 20, 2021 Microsoft's implementation of fast start can affect many things. Fast Start is the first thing I disable on each and every computer I service. It solves many issues. What happens when the VPN is off and you do a restart instead of shutting down. Does the VPN come back on then? Link to post

R2D21962 Posted November 20, 2021 Author ID:1489288 Share Posted November 20, 2021 It's not that I don't want to follow it but it seems a little bit complicated and I am tech-savy since I am an avionics-electronics technician. Link to post

Staff gatortail Posted November 22, 2021 Staff ID:1489428 Share Posted November 22, 2021 @R2D21962 We are also targeting to release a new Pause feature with v3.10 later today. This will be a new option from the system tray icon that will allow you to disconnect the VPN for 15, 30 or 60 minutes. Privacy will automatically reconnect once the pause timer is finished.
