I have this same bug https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/226109-slow-shutdown-bug/
If i close Malwarebytes before shutdown everything is fine, but if not, shutdown take very long time. This have been year now.
How can i make clean install, because that link "clean installation by following the instructions in this support article https://support.malwarebytes.com/docs/DOC-1112 to see if that resolves it." is not valid.

If i do clean install, how do i save my 'Allow list'?

Hi,

Thanks for posting in the Malwarebytes for Windows Help forum.

If you are having technical issues with our Windows product, please do the following:

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

  • For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
  • For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
  • For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

Spoiler
  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed.
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
  14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
  15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

You cant. you will have to enter them again.

Lets look at some logs first.

Please do the following so that we may take a closer look at your installation for troubleshooting:

NOTE: The tools and the information obtained is safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.

  • Download the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • In your Downloads folder, open the mb-support-x.x.x.xxx.exe file
  • In the User Account Control pop-up window, click Yes to continue the installation
  • Run the MBST Support Tool
  • In the left navigation pane of the Malwarebytes Support Tool, click Advanced
  • In the Advanced Options, click Gather Logs. A status diagram displays the tool is Getting logs from your machine
  • A zip file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your desktop, please upload that file on your next reply

Something is wrong with the system in that it did not reach out and download some other logs for us. I've moved your topic into the Malware Removal Forum @reko

It's late for me so I'll check back on you in the morning. Please try to complete the following tasks as best as possible and I'll reply to you sometime tomorrow.

Please run the following steps and post back the logs as an attachment when ready.
Temporarily disable your antivirus or other security software first. Make sure to turn it back on once the scans are completed.
Temporarily disable Microsoft SmartScreen to download software below if needed. Make sure to turn it back on once the scans are completed.
If you still have trouble downloading the software please click on Reveal Hidden Contents below for examples of how to allow the download.

Spoiler

Spoiler

When downloading with some browsers you may see a different style of screens that may block FRST from downloading. The program is safe and used hundreds of times a week by many users.

Example of Microsoft Edge blocking the download

STEP 01

  • If you already have Malwarebytes installed then open Malwarebytes and click on the Scan button. It will automatically check for updates and run a Threat Scan.
  • If you don't have Malwarebytes installed yet please download it from here and install it.
  • Once installed then open Malwarebytes and select Scan and let it run.
  • Once the scan is completed make sure you have it quarantine any detections it finds.
  • If no detections were found click on the Save results drop-down, then the Export to TXT  button, and save the file as a Text file to your desktop or other location you can find and attach that log on your next reply.
  • If there were detections then once the quarantine has completed click on the View report button, Then click the Export drop-down, then the Export to TXT  button, and save the file as a Text file to your desktop or other location you can find and attach that log on your next reply.
  • If the computer restarted to quarantine you can access the logs from the Detection History, then the History tab. Highlight the most recent scan and double-click to open it. Then click the Export drop-down, then the Export to TXT  button, and save the file as a Text file to your desktop or other location you can find and attach that log on your next reply.
  • If Malwarebytes won't run then please skip to the next step and let me know in your next reply that the scanner would not run.

STEP 02

Please download AdwCleaner by Malwarebytes and save the file to your Desktop.

  • Double-click to run the program
  • Accept the End User License Agreement.
  • Wait until the database is updated.
  • Click Scan Now.
  • When finished, if items are found please click Quarantine.
  • Your PC should reboot now if any items were found.
  • After reboot, a log file will be opened. Attach or Copy its content into your next reply.

RESTART THE COMPUTER Before running Step 3

STEP 03
Please download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). If you've, run the tool before you need to place a check mark here each time
  • Please attach the Additions.txt log to your reply as well.
  • On your next reply, you should be attaching frst.txt and additions.txt to your post, every time.

Thanks

You have the following programs that are going to more than likely cause some level of incompatibility with our program.

AdGuard
F-Secure Internet Security

You can attempt to add exclusions to see if that helps improve the issue or not but all 3 products try to manage and use the underlying API calls to the firewall to try and stop browser threats. They do not work well together even with exclusions set.

https://support.malwarebytes.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038522974-Malwarebytes-for-Windows-antivirus-exclusions-list

Any issues with the Malwarebytes Windows Firewall Control would need to be addressed by their support team directly. We do not support it here on the forums.

https://www.binisoft.org/contact

You're using one of the managed DNS logs with 10K entries. That too could possibly be an issue depending on what is going on. Restoring to a default HOSTS may be part of the diagnostics to see if it helps or not.

ATTENTION: System Restore is disabled (Total:614.99 GB) (Free:330.22 GB) (54%)

I would highly recommend that you enable System Protection and create a new System Restore Point

You can see here that our service is crashing (guess only but possibly due to F-Secure). You also have other networking errors.

System errors:
=============
Error: (10/29/2021 10:53:07 AM) (Source: Service Control Manager) (EventID: 7031) (User: )
Description: The Malwarebytes Service service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time(s).  The following corrective action will be taken in 5000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

Error: (10/28/2021 10:16:24 AM) (Source: HTTP) (EventID: 15005) (User: )
Description: Unable to bind to the underlying transport for [::]:2869. The IP Listen-Only list may contain a reference to an interface which may not exist on this machine.  The data field contains the error number.

I see you're also using the Bitsum LLC which sometimes also can conflict with security programs which work quite a bit differently than other applications do. Make sure you're not using the tool against any of your security programs

If this is true then your computer is definitely compromised as it should not have any part of Windows Defender gutted

HKLM\...\Run: [WindowsDefender] => "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Defender\MSASCuiL.exe" (No File)

HKLM\...\Policies\Explorer: [SettingsPageVisibility] hide:windowsdefender;gaming-broadcasting;gaming-gamebar;gaming-gamedvr;gaming-gamemode;gaming-trueplay;gaming-xboxnetworking;holographic-audio;windowsinsider

Did you set these entries on purpose?

IFEO\CompatTelRunner.exe: [Debugger]
IFEO\DeviceCensus.exe: [Debugger]
IFEO\MicrosoftEdge.exe: [Debugger]
IFEO\SecHealthUI.exe: [Debugger]

Please clean up and try to address the issues above, beyond that we can run some generic clean up scripts to see if that too helps. Let me know

Thanks @reko

Here is the Malwarebytes threat scan log from yesterday.

Malwarebytes scanlog.txt

And then new FRST logs too FRST.txtAddition.txt

I did reset the HOST file to the original and i did disabled Adguard service. Then i did disabled all F-secure process except Virus Protection and Antimalware Scan Interface. Also Bitsum is now disabled.

Debuggers are gone too.

System Protection is useless. System Restore Point never solved any problem. I take full system backup instead if needed.

The Farbar logs are not complete or have been edited. Please run Farbar again and click on SCAN and do not edit the logs before posting.

Have any of the changes helped improve the slow shutdown issue?

You simply need to download our MBST support tool to do a Clean Removal.

Can you please do the following?

  • Download the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • In your Downloads folder, open the mb-support-x.x.x.xxx.exe file
  • In the User Account Control pop-up window, click Yes to continue the installation
  • Run the MBST Support Tool
  • In the left navigation pane of the Malwarebytes Support Tool, click Advanced
  • In the Advanced Options, click the CLEAN button and follow the onscreen instructions to reinstall Malwarebytes
  • NOTE: Please have patience as it can take a while to remove and reinstall. The computer will restart to complete

After the restart please do the following

  • Run the MBST Support Tool
  • In the left navigation pane of the Malwarebytes Support Tool, click Advanced
  • In the Advanced Options, click Gather Logs. A status diagram displays the tool is Getting logs from your machine
  • A zip file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your desktop, please upload that file on your next reply

Thank you @reko

Thank you @reko

I'm heading off to bed but please review and do the following and I'll check back on you a bit later today

Your chosen browser selection seems odd coming from what appears to be a Chinese source. Unless you know and understand Chinese very well I'd be at least skeptical of using such a browser. There are many other browsers with known resources in English and signed files, this one is not signed. Of course the choice is obviously your choice.

Default browser: "C:\Program Files\CatsxpSoftware\Catsxp-Browser\Application\catsxp.exe" --single-argument %1

This has Scheduled Tasks for files that do not appear to be on the system. (or it's possibly hidden from access due to a locked file?)

Task: {55079A65-AA1F-4165-B74A-BF86B686DB62} - System32\Tasks\Monitor => C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\GPU TweakII\Monitor.exe (No File)

Task: {A0E5F1D8-B58A-4E11-B2D6-0382061F68BA} - System32\Tasks\ASUS\ArmouryLiveUpdate => C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\ROG Armoury\Live Update\ArmouryLiveUpdate.exe (No File)

Task: {A87B1CF9-86F9-4A9C-B341-11E7BB4A2EFB} - System32\Tasks\ASUS\P508PowerAgent => C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\ROG Armoury\Mouse\ROG STRIX CARRY\P508PowerAgent.exe (No File)

Task: {E64D91AB-8646-4B26-AE63-F5C99EAF2E3C} - System32\Tasks\ASUS\MacroAgent => C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\ROG Armoury\MacroAgent.exe (No File)

Task: {F07653D8-4139-44B2-BE13-DA6694F1EFB4} - System32\Tasks\ASUS\ledcontrolservice3 => C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\ROG Armoury\Protocol\AudioLEDControl\ledcontrolservice3.exe -s (No File)

If no longer using the Tasks should be deleted

No programs or services should ever be run from the Temp folder. These should be removed and if wanted to be installed into their own proper folder

S3 cpuz149; C:\WINDOWS\temp\cpuz149\cpuz149_x64.sys [44320 2020-10-28] (CPUID S.A.R.L.U. -> CPUID)

S3 GPUZ-v2; C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\GPUZ-v2.sys [50216 2020-10-28] (TechPowerUp LLC -> )

Since you have and want to use full backups, please make a new full backup and then run the following fix.

It will do a lot of general cleaning as well as fully reset your firewall. You can add new entries to the firewall as needed when prompted by the system.

Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop or location where you ran FRST from.
NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST or FRST64, and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

Please make sure you disable any real-time antivirus or security software before running this script. Once completed, make sure you re-enable it.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system that cannot be undone.

Run FRST or FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt) or wherever you ran FRST from. Please attach or post it to your next reply.

Note: If the tool warned you about an outdated version please download and run the updated version.

NOTE-1:  This fix will run a scan to check that all Microsoft operating system files are valid and not corrupt and attempt to correct any invalid files. It will also run a disk check on the restart to ensure disk integrity. Depending on the speed of your computer this fix may take 30 minutes or more.

NOTE-2: As part of this fix all temporary files will be removed. If you have any open web pages that have not been bookmarked please make sure you bookmark them now as all open applications will be automatically closed. Also, make sure you know the passwords for all websites as cookies will also be removed. The use of an external password manager is highly recommended instead of using your browser to store passwords.

NOTE-3: As part of this fix it will also reset the network to default settings including the firewall. If you have custom firewall rules you need to save please export or save them first before running this fix.

The following directories are emptied:

  • Windows Temp
  • Users Temp folders
  • Edge, IE, FF, Chrome, and Opera caches, HTML5 storages, Cookies and History
  • Recently opened files cache
  • Flash Player cache
  • Java cache
  • Steam HTML cache
  • Explorer thumbnail and icon cache
  • BITS transfer queue (qmgr*.dat files)
  • Recycle Bin

Important: items are permanently deleted. They are not moved to quarantine. If you have any questions or concerns please ask before running this fix.

The system will be rebooted after the fix has run.

Thanks

My main browser was Cent Browser. Before that i was using TheWorld Browser and Maxthon browsers, both are Chinese. They were great and fast, lot of features. Before those i did use K-Ninja and K-Meleon. They were fast too.

Cent Browser is definitely the best one i have tried. The developing just stopped and it based to Chromium 86. Thats why im trying to find very similar browser. Some one mentioned this Catsxp so im testing it currently. It seems to be under fast developing so its not based to old Chrome build. Im not happy with this one. It has not many features so i have to try to find something else.

Those ASUS files. I dont have any of those installed. I tried those when i got this new computer, but it is kind of long time ago. Their uninstaller seems to leave stuff behind. Have to clean those manually.

GPU-Z and CPU-Z have their own installation folder in Program Files and Program Files (x86). They must have left those files behind when i installed those. CCleaner used to clean the temp files, but i dont use it anymore after they sold it.

Please run the FIX above and it will clean up a lot of items and verify system files, etc.

As for a fast browser, again it's up to you but security should be your number one concern vs someone using a known and unfixed exploit from an old build or a new build by a coder that is not aware they just coded an exploit into the build and then someone gains control of your system and steals private information from you silently all year long. Everything you type or do they have a copy of and you don't even know it. Again, I cannot stress how bad a decision it is to pick any browser for features over security. The main browsers Google Chrome and Firefox themselves put out regular fixes and even emergency security fixes almost monthly vs. most of these other browsers that may have the same exploit in them don't get an update.

The entries of the GPU-Z and CPU-Z are not just temp files. Those are Services that even if you have CCleaner (not recommended) it would not remove them.

Once you've run the fix please post the FIXLOG.TXT file.

Thank you again @reko
