Infected - Can't install Malwarebytes

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm infected with something, and I've installed all sorts of tools in an attempt to remove it. AVG, Eset, RogueKiller, adwcleaner, rkill, etc. I then ran the Malwarebytes support tool, clicked the clean button and attempted to reinstall malware bytes. That doesn't work either, it just reboots my PC over and over, finally telling me that the install failed. I've even tried installing it in safemode - didn't work.

I downloaded FRST (I saw that this was what other users were told to do in this situation). Here is the output:

Hello   @Zane470   :welcome:

My name is Maurice.  Let me know what name you prefer to go by.  I will guide you.  Please, no more tools / no more runs on your own.

I need a report set for review.   This is a report only.

I just need you to start the mb-support tool  just to only gather a report collection.

Once you start it click Advanced >>> then   Gather Logs

Upload an archive once it is done. Attach the mbst-grab-results.zip from the Desktop.

  • Please attach  mbst-grab-results.zip    to your reply , like displayed here.
  • To send  ( upload)   attachments please click the "ADD Files"  link . Then browse to where your file is located and select it and click the Open button.

The set of data from the report will provide much needed information.

Please always attach reports as we go along.

@Zane470   If you are getting help at some other venue, then please STOP and let me know.  Likewise, if you are reading some how-to resource here or elsewhere, then STOP and tell me about.   Please understand in a case like this here, there is not a single-step quick fix.  And it does not help that this pc looks to have 19 or more "tools" or apps that you may have run.  I need for you to stop your other efforts, and, only follow my guidance.  And to stop and ask me first, before doing things on your own.

I am curious to know if Malwabytes Anti-rootkit reported any malware ?

Ditto, did ESET online scanner report any virus, or trojan, or any malware ?

I need to know the name of the folder where you saved the mb-support tool.  I also need to have from you the mbst-grab-results.zip

We can get things squared away if you will follow my guidance.  It will take persistence, patience, and many rounds.

After getting me the ZIP file,   I need you to do 2 prelimary actions.
Disable Fast Startup

Then restart the computer

Please  set File Explorer to SHOW ALL folders, all files, including Hidden ones.  Use OPTION ONE or TWO of this article

Then kindly confirm that you have done these steps.  Then kindly wait for my next guidance.

Hi Maurice,

Sorry. You can close this thread! I think I'm going to reformat my PC. The permissions on lots of directories have been screwed up, as well as who knows what else. I use this computer for work, and at this point I feel as though my PC is so far compromised that I can't really trust it.

I would recommend you get a Malwarebytes Premium license to cover all your devices, Windows, Android, Chromebook.  The Malwarebytes Premium has multiple real-time protections and will keep your devices safer.

I am marking this case for closure.

Please review the following for Tips to help protect from infection

All the best to you.  😃
