Hello @RicCrud and :welcome:

The Malwarebytes for Mac's RTProtectionDaemon is always active during system startup/restart, and data transfers, etc.

Forum management has been requested to move your topic to a more appropriate sub-forum. In the meantime, would you please reply with the Mac's Model Identifier, macOS version and Malwarebytes for Mac version information and edition.

  1. Click on  Menu -> click on About This Mac -> click on Overview (tab) -> click on System Report... (button) -> click on Hardware Overview:  Report Apple's Model Name and Apple's Model Identifier.  (e.g. MacBook5,1 MacBookPro11,5 MacBookAir9,1)
  2. Click on  Menu -> click on About This Mac -> click on Overview (tab) -> click on Version.  Report the macOS version and (build).  (e.g. macOS Big Sur 11.6 (20G165))
  3. Open the Malwarebytes for Mac GUI -> Select Malwarebytes -> Select About Malwarebytes -> Malwarebytes Version: (e.g. 4.xx.x)
  4. Is the installed Malwarebytes for Mac app the Free, Premium or Premium Trial edition?

Until a Malwarebytes staffer responds, please consider adjusting the Malwarebytes.app CPU usage to Low and switch Malware Protection back to On.

Thank you.

2015 MacBook Pro, OS 11.6 Big Sur, with Malwarebytes 4.13.5 Premium on low CPU usage setting, and the RTProtectionDaemon is still pulling 96-100% of CPU resources. The fans spin like crazy all the time when Malwarebytes does its scan.  I have yet to see any concrete fix for this issue in any related forum, and it seems that this has been going on for a long time.  What is the FIX for this issue, if there is one?

If it's hitting 96-100% while CPU usage is set to Low, there's something wrong. That's not normal. I'd recommend that you try completely uninstalling the software, then reinstalling. Uninstall via the Uninstall item in the Help menu within the Malwarebytes app, and make sure you have your license key handy for when you reinstall.

To reinstall, be sure to re-download the installer from here:

There's a chance that your posting won't be seen, given that this conversation is a year old and there have been several updates since then. It's always best to start a new discussion and include additional facts, such as the CPU setting you are using.

I believe that setting applies to scans (scheduled or manual) anyway not to the real-time protection.

Staff reply above was that it does apply to real-time protection.
