All of my files are changed to .vicrypt file extension. The only solution I have found online is buying software made specifically to remove the root & change the files back. I'm crossing my fingers that someone here can help.

Hi,

I see you are running Teatimer.

I suggest you to disable it because it can interfere with the changes you'll make on your system.

When everything is done and your log is clean again, you can enable it again.

If teatimer gives you a warning afterwards that some changes were made, allow this instead of blocking it.

How to disable TeaTimer <== click me for instructions.

After you disabled Teatimer, download ResetTeaTimer.exe to your desktop.

Then run ResetTeaTimer.exe.

This will only take a few seconds.

then,

First of all, please update MalwareBytes, because the databaseversion is outdated.

  • Start MalwareBytes and click the Update tab. There click "Check for updates"
  • Once the updates are downloaded, perform a quick scan again.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log, then we'll proceed from there with new steps.

Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Hi,

Your logs look OK again. How are things now?

Edited to add...

All of my files are changed to .vicrypt file extension. The only solution I have found online is buying software made specifically to remove the root & change the files back. I'm crossing my fingers that someone here can help.
I misread that first. I thought you had already fixed it by purchasing that software. I assume they are still "encrypted"?

In that case, there's not much malwarebytes can do about this unfortunately, because we cannot "decrypt" them. You may have more luck with an Antivirus.

I see you are using AVG, so I suggest you post your issue at the AVG forum. Maybe they can help you with this.

No, I haven't bought the software because I am not extremely concerned about any of the files that have been affected. I am most concerned about getting the root & making sure it doesn't spread. If I delete the files affected should I be good to go? I did a system wide search & found it is only affecting files in my documents folder.
