"Malwarebytes protected you from 1 threat"

Recommended Posts

Received notice that "Malwarebytes protected you from 1 threat". I checked my reports and there is none that reported finding a threat. How do I find what the threat was or if there was really a threat detected?

Please do the following so that we may take a closer look at your installation for troubleshooting:

NOTE: The tools and the information obtained is safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.

  • Download the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • In your Downloads folder, open the mb-support-x.x.x.xxx.exe file
  • In the User Account Control pop-up window, click Yes to continue the installation
  • Run the MBST Support Tool
  • In the left navigation pane of the Malwarebytes Support Tool, click Advanced
  • In the Advanced Options, click Gather Logs. A status diagram displays the tool is Getting logs from your machine
  • A zip file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your desktop, please upload that file on your next reply

Thanks

Hello @carynb

I am an employee of Malwarebytes and the Forum Administrator. Please go ahead and post back the requested logs and I'll take a look and see what I can find.

I apologize. I installed but my son clicked reinstall and may have wiped out the logs because when I got back, went into advanced options and it said it had completed the task of "gather logs", when I went to the desktop, that file is not there. Maybe there were no logs because of the reinstall??

I guess I'll wait until next time it comes up and try again.

THank you for trying to help me.

Please run the following and we can help check the system to see if we detect anything

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system.
You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply as well.

Thank you

I don't see any obvious infections in the logs but there are a few errors in the Event Logs section.

If you'd like to try to clean up the computer a little bit let me know and we can work on doing some general clean up.

Note: You have a rather small hard drive and the free space is getting low. I would recommend enabling System Restore and looking at cleaning up or removing items not needed so that you can gain some free space back again.

ATTENTION: System Restore is disabled (Total:118.01 GB) (Free:14.49 GB) (12%)

The following program can also help you find where the space is being used

Actually, my C drive is an SSD and I have a D drive that has plenty of space. I have moved whatever I could over to the D drive, but there still isn't much space left on the C drive. Would love suggestions and help.

Moving your user folder from C:\Users to the D: drive would be one major way to increase space.

I do the same on my system. I created a new folder on the root of the D: volume called MyData and then moved all my document type folders there.

Here is one article on how to do it. (Make sure you're using a Content blocker as this site has a lot of Ads)

Please install uBlock Origin for your browsers to better protect your system.
FireFox, ChromeOpera

I would also temporarily uninstall McAfee antivirus and then we can run some clean up scripts with FRST to correct some issues. If interested in that let me know.

Cheers

Thank you very much for this. I really want to do this, but it looks like it will take devoting some time for it. I will read some of the articles and then plan on scheduling time. I have been worried about the dwindling space on the C drive and know that this will be very helpful.
