zeni Posted June 5, 2021 ID:1461815 Share Posted June 5, 2021 Hi really sorry if this is the wrong area to post this, I can't make heads or tails of the forum, and Google is also being a real pain to search this with. So my problem is that whenever I launch the Steam app, Malwarebytes pops up with "trojan blocked". What can I do? Here's the report from when I launch Steam: Spoiler Malwarebytes www.malwarebytes.com -Log Details- Protection Event Date: 6/6/21 Protection Event Time: 1:40 AM Log File: fb170a0e-c64e-11eb-b00a-c4346b802c61.json -Software Information- Version: 4.4.0.117 Components Version: 1.0.1318 Update Package Version: 1.0.41355 License: Trial -System Information- OS: Windows 10 (Build 19041.985) CPU: x64 File System: NTFS User: System -Blocked Website Details- Malicious Website: 1 , D:\*****in steam\Steam\steam.exe, Blocked, -1, -1, 0.0.0, , -Website Data- Category: Trojan Domain: IP Address: 192.223.26.237 Port: 27015 Type: Outbound File: D:\*****in steam\Steam\steam.exe (end) Here's the report from when I launched the game Beasts of Bermuda: Spoiler Malwarebytes www.malwarebytes.com -Log Details- Protection Event Date: 6/4/21 Protection Event Time: 2:12 PM Log File: cdb75d36-c525-11eb-80c6-c4346b802c61.json -Software Information- Version: 4.4.0.117 Components Version: 1.0.1318 Update Package Version: 1.0.41295 License: Trial -System Information- OS: Windows 10 (Build 19041.985) CPU: x64 File System: NTFS User: System -Blocked Website Details- Malicious Website: 1 , D:\*****in steam\Steam\GameOverlayUI.exe, Blocked, -1, -1, 0.0.0, , -Website Data- Category: Trojan Domain: IP Address: 192.223.26.237 Port: 27015 Type: Outbound File: D:\*****in steam\Steam\GameOverlayUI.exe (end) And finally here's a general scan I did, that showed up with nothing really: Spoiler Malwarebytes www.malwarebytes.com -Log Details- Scan Date: 6/5/21 Scan Time: 8:53 AM Log File: 492c630c-c5c2-11eb-a812-c4346b802c61.json -Software Information- Version: 4.4.0.117 Components Version: 1.0.1318 Update Package Version: 1.0.41325 License: Trial -System Information- OS: Windows 10 (Build 19041.985) CPU: x64 File System: NTFS User: Tekoneko\chaoz -Scan Summary- Scan Type: Threat Scan Scan Initiated By: Manual Result: Completed Objects Scanned: 345363 Threats Detected: 0 Threats Quarantined: 0 Time Elapsed: 5 min, 33 sec -Scan Options- Memory: Enabled Startup: Enabled Filesystem: Enabled Archives: Enabled Rootkits: Enabled Heuristics: Enabled PUP: Detect PUM: Detect -Scan Details- Process: 0 (No malicious items detected) Module: 0 (No malicious items detected) Registry Key: 0 (No malicious items detected) Registry Value: 0 (No malicious items detected) Registry Data: 0 (No malicious items detected) Data Stream: 0 (No malicious items detected) Folder: 0 (No malicious items detected) File: 0 (No malicious items detected) Physical Sector: 0 (No malicious items detected) WMI: 0 (No malicious items detected) (end)
Staff Solution JPopovic Posted June 6, 2021 Staff Solution ID:1461860 Share Posted June 6, 2021 Hello, IP Address: 192.223.26.237 is blocked. As for why Malwarebytes blocks Steam and other games, this is because Steam is Torrent based software, are what are known as Peer-to-Peer (P2P) applications meaning it connects to many different servers/IP addresses (this is how files are downloaded through Torrent based software) and because of this, sometimes Torrent based software will connect to a server that is also known for hosting malicious content. This is because servers/IP addresses are often shared by multiple sites, so while what you are Playing/downloading through Torrent based software may be perfectly safe, some of the sites hosted on some of the IP addresses that Torrent based software connects to may be malicious. Such connections are not a threat however, and you may exclude Torrent based software from the Web Protection component in Malwarebytes to stop the blocks from happening without compromising your protection (your web browser and other critical web facing programs will still be fully protected from malicious websites and other malicious content). To do so, add the game exe to your exclusions using the method described under the Exclude an Application that Connects to the Internet section of this support article.
