Hi,

Thanks for posting in the Malwarebytes for Windows Help forum.

If you are having technical issues with our Windows product, please do the following:

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

  • For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
  • For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
  • For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

Spoiler
  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed.
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
  14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
  15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

I agree, I think I have seen this article before. I have tried disabling the Real-Time Protection feature and it does solve the BSOD issue but I am not comfortable with leaving it off. This is on of the main reasons I use Malwarebytes. I think my basic question was one of resolution. Has their been any progress on making Malwarebytes work with these other AV products? I have been using this software combination since Windows 7 but started having this issue within the last year. Curious as to what changed and how to go back to the working configuration.

Interesting. I have never had to much faith in Windows Defender even though it is running on my PC as well. I am not attached to AVG and have only used to free version. The constant popups and prodding for paid subscriptions would be easy to live without if Defender is as good as you say it is.

What is preventing Malwarebytes from offering a more robust AV solution that will of course integrate with their product? Seems this has been lacking for years.

The reason it conflicts is because AVG uses the same WFP filters as Malwarebytes.

Malwarebytes is now considered an Anti-Virus Replacement

The following links explain what the WFP APIs are and how it is used in applications as well as some info on how Web Protection in Malwarebytes works:

I hope this helps, and please let us know if you have any further questions or issues.

Thanks

Don't understand why this was so far behind when auto update is enabled but none the less it will take time to determine if this resolves anything. I don't suspect that it will if Win10 sees these programs as competing AV products as mentioned earlier. I am curious as to why Malwarebytes is considered an AV like AVG when it does not provide that functionality.

* We are rolling out 4.3.3.116 (in preparation for 4.4 and where applicable)  at a slower rate than the component package 1.0.1292 so most computers will run 4.3.0.98 until we roll out 4.4.0

Also in general,

The company has program updates pushed through the normal updater (the one that checks for database updates) metered in such a way that it is throttled so not every user is offered the new build once it has been released, so it becomes a matter of probability and is somewhat random.  This means that you might be offered it early, or it might take a really long time before it is offered to you, it just all depends.  Basically a luck of the draw kind of deal.

Well, I have one basic question left. What AV to use along side MalwareBytes other than Windows Defender which I still don't think is very competitive even if improved. I see McAfee and Symantec Norton are not on the conflict list but I don't think either of them are relevant for personal use.

Hello @unimorpheus

Malwarebytes by itself should be able to protect your system. There is no product that can 100% prevent any and all infections at all times. Many find using Windows Defender on Windows 10 to be an acceptable trade-off that still feel they want additional protection as it is built-in and free.
