JimBoden Posted May 6, 2021 ID:1455206 Share Posted May 6, 2021 I have noticed the service is hogging a considerable amount of memory. When I look at my resources it is one of the top items using a considerable amount of memory. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I am running windows 10 64 bit. exile360 Posted May 6, 2021 ID:1455239 Share Posted May 6, 2021 Greetings, As long as you don't run out of RAM totally, having applications use large amounts of RAM should not impact your system's performance. This is because modern systems typically have more RAM than systems in the past, and CPU cycles, not RAM, actually determine system responsiveness and performance. I recommend reading up on the subject in the following articles if you wish to find out more: - https://www.howtogeek.com/128130/htg-explains-why-its-good-that-your-computers-ram-is-full/ - https://linux-mm.org/Low_On_Memory With that said, if you are also seeing a lot of CPU usage by MBAMService, it is possible that it is running a scheduled scan in the background. This can often occur because by default the scan scheduler is configured to run a scan around 2~3AM; a time during which the system may not be running, and it is configured to run the scan as soon as possible if the scan was missed, meaning the scan may often end up running as soon as the system starts up the following day, resulting in a lot of CPU and RAM usage in the background. This can be addressed by changing the time for the scheduled scan to occur, or configuring the scan not to run later if it was missed. Details on configuring scheduled scans can be found in this support article if needed. With all of that said, if Malwarebytes is affecting your system's performance or if it is using an unusually large amount of CPU or RAM, please let us know and we will take a look to see what might be causing the issue. The amount of RAM used by Malwarebytes running in the background can vary depending on a lot of factors, but typically falls somewhere between 30,000K and 400,000K, potentially rising up to 1,000,000K or more if a scan is running. As Porthos indicated above, the consumer version of Malwarebytes is not designed to run on server operating systems.
