Marko21 Posted April 16, 2021 ID:1451760 Share Posted April 16, 2021 Hello guys! Lately ive been having some problems with one of my USB drives... Its an old one i had from when i was younger, and i had to format a device. Now i wanna get access to some files i had in that USB, but when i plug it in, windows defender detects Hacktool Win32 Keygen, and warns me about a possible trojan virus. Im able to "destroy" the "virus", caused by - you guessed it - a hacktool i used 6 years ago to hack a screen recording software, by simply pressing the available options in Win Defender, but im still worried about the files i keep in the drive. If that keygen tool really has a virus, are the other files infected too? What if i connect the USB to my PC and straight up delete the keygen tool? If it carries a virus will it go away along with the tool? btw after using the USB I scanned my pc with malwarebytes and seems ok, so maybe there is no virus and im just getting trolled... Please help!
Solution Maurice Naggar Posted April 16, 2021 Solution ID:1451781 Share Posted April 16, 2021 Hello. First, before connecting /seating the connector to the USB, press & Hold the SHIFT-key on the keyboard until connection is fully seated. That will prevent any autoruns from USB device. . The USB can be scanned using Windows File Explorer right-click context menu. Looking at the left-side folder tree, right click and select Scan with Malwarebytes , or Scan with Microsoft Defender. . Be sure to do those 2 scans. Later, we can run other scans.

Marko21 Posted April 23, 2021 Author ID:1452801 Share Posted April 23, 2021 Hello Maurice thank you for the response, it seems like windows defender just freaked out because of the keygen, but when I scan it there is no virus... I managed to delete it just to be sure and grab the files that I wanted, after scanning them twice. Thanks for the help!
