on my windows 10 laptop there is no check for updates  option , i have to open MWB > settings>  check for updates

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

• For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
• For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
• For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
   • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
   • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
   • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
   •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
   • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
7. Upon completion, click OK
8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
11. Click the Yes button to proceed. 
12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

The items available in the jump lists may differ for each application and can also depend on the version of Windows being run.  That said, you should have the option to check for updates by right-clicking the tray icon located in the notification area near your system clock.

You're welcome.  It likely also has to do with differences in how jump lists are handled in Windows 10, where the number of jump list items shown is more limited, however it can be modified through a registry tweak as discussed in this article.  Which specific options are available depend a lot on Windows though, so increasing it might not necessarily cause the option to check for updates to be displayed.

Just FYI, I use Malwarebytes Premium v4.3.0 on my 64-bit Win 10 Pro v20H2 machine and this is what the pop-up menu currently looks like when I right-click my Malwarebytes system tray icon:

When I was using Malwarebytes Free v4.x (i.e., before I activated my Premium license on 31-Mar-2021) on this same machine the option to Check for Updates was also present in the pop-up menu with 64-bit Win 10 Pro v1909, v2004 and v20H2.

That's the right-click context menu for the tray icon in the notification area I was referring to in my first post; the jump list is the list of items displayed when right-clicking on the actual taskbar icon for items pinned to the taskbar and for programs with currently open windows.

Do you mean that your Malwarebytes icon is normally hidden in your Win 10 system tray?  If you want to unhide your Malwarebytes icon in Win 10 go to Settings | Personalization | Taskbar | Notification Area and click "Select which icons appear in the taskbar".

Then turn ON the icon for the Malwarebytes Tray Application, and the icon will not be hidden as log as Malwarebytes is running on your system.

Sorry about the earlier confusion over taskbar icon jump lists vs pop-up menus from the system tray icon.  I've edited my post <above> to clarify that I was talking about the pop-up menu I see when I right-click the Malwarebytes icon in the system tray.

Is it possible you've recently cleared (or disabled) the list of Recently Opened Items in your jump lists?

I haven't used the registry hack mentioned <here> by exile360, and here's the jump list I saw today when I open the Malwarebytes interface and right clicked the Malwarebytes icon on the taskbar.

However, if I clear my list of recently opened items in Win 10 (e.g., with CCleaner) that "Check for Updates" option in the jump list disappears.  For example, if I go to  Settings | Personalization | Start | Show Recently Opened Items in Jump List on Start or the Taskbar and in File Explorer Quick Access and then toggle that switch OFF and then back ON again to clear the recent items in my jump list...

... the Check for Updates option is removed from my Malwarebytes jump list.

After I closed and re-open my Malwarebytes interface and checked for updates the jump list looked identical to my first image in this reply and the "Check for Updates" option reappeared in the jump list.

thanks , ok so if MWB is open and i right click on the icon in the TASK bar i see check 4 updates but if its closed i dont 

 

off topic how do i get MWB to open full screen when i click it ?

Malwarebytes always defaults to opening to the same size, so if you want it to be full screen you will need to click the maximize button to maximize the window size each time you open it.

I don't normally have a Malwarebytes start icon pinned to my taskbar (there is no need because my Malwarebytes Premium always loads at boot-up and runs in real-time protection mode so the system tray icon is always visible and can be used to open the Malwarebytes interface or check for updates) but as a test I pinned a Malwarebytes icon to my taskbar (Start | Malwarebytes | More | Pin to Taskbar) and I believe you're correct - Check for Updates only appears in the taskbar jump list when my Malwarebytes interface is open.  When the Malwareabytes interface is closed all I see in the jump list for the pinned taskbar icon is:

If I right-click the Malwarebytes icon in the system tray as shown in the image below then Check for Updates appears in the pop-up menu regardless of whether my Malwarebytes interface is open or closed.

your MWB's icon is on the RHS of the jump list arrow , mine is not - maybe thats why ?

Yes, it is because the icon Imacri is referring to is the notification area icon near the system clock (one of the smaller icons that some resident/background programs display along with the system volume icon, network icon, and other system icons).  It is not the same as the taskbar icon which shows the jump list entries; the items listed in the tray icon's context menu are always the same.  If Malwarebytes is running and you don't see the smaller notification area icon near the system clock, click on the small arrow in the system tray and it should be shown in the small area that pops up above the taskbar and you can then drag the Malwarebytes icon to the right so that it is no longer hidden under the arrow/menu.
