Malwarebytes is using a lot of memory on my HP laptop

The title pretty much speaks for itself. I thought it was discord initially but upon closing the process it seems that malwarebytes is the culprit. I've tried going into the task manager and setting the priority to low but it said access denied? I'm not sure how that works because I'm the only user on this computer.. but uh, I have a screenshot of how much memory malwarebytes is using and to me it seems excessive? If you are having technical issues with our Windows product, please do the following:

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

  • For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
  • For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
  • For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed. 
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
  14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
  15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

That amount for Malwarebytes Service looks normal.

In my personal opinion the minimum ram nowadays is 8 gig. But in the overall picture, Ram is not everything that contributes to a computers performance.

You also have to consider processor and hard drive speed as well.

Well, the processor is an Intel i3 10th Gen, the hard drive speed says No Rotation? I'm sorry I'm not really tech savvy so I'm not sure what these mean. I got the computer to use discord and run really basic games if I decide to play them and malwarebytes is what I used on my last computer.. So I transferred it to this one.

Is there a way to add more memory without like.. breaking the bank? Also I'd just take it to a repair place to get it put in, right? or can I add it myself?

The Intel i3 CPU is not that great.  It's better than a Celeron or Pentium but not as good as an i5 or i7, etc.

The Intel i5 has probably the best performance price ratio.

There are two types of storage.  Primary and Secondary.

Primary storage is Fast RAM.

Secondary Storage is slower Solid State Drives or Spindle Drives (15K RPM, 7,200 RPM and 5,200 RPM are the slowest)

You need to raise the RAM ceiling so the %Memory used, shown in Task Manager, is reduced.

How you can upgrade the RAM is dependent upon the Make and Model.  You may have two memory module slots where one is populated with a 4GB module and the other slot is empty making the upgrade as easy as dropping in another 4GB or 8GB module.

For the HP 15-dy1025nr it has two slots so you can add 4GB (Total 8GB), 8GB (Total 12GB) or 16GB (Total 20GB) for a system set with a physical maximum of 32GB.

EDIT:

I just noticed all the RAM chosen at Newegg are "shipped from China" .  I would then suggest using them as examples and NOT choose any online marketplace site that "ships from China".

Easy to do by yourself, just be careful with everything and it should be no problem at all!

My wife also has an old laptop with an i3 and only 4GB of ram, but it is to old to upgrade memory. Sony Vaio... I just put an SSD in this old beast and she is happy with this. She even does not want a new one, she wanna keep this Laptop anyway. It's enough for what i do she say.

See my laptop is new though lol. I just honest to God didn't pay attention to the ram when I bought it. But, knowing I can add more makes me feel better~

Most users don't, all they look at is price. As my forum signature states I do this for a living and see it all the time. I am so happy you at least got one with a SSD and an "I" series processor. Yes an I5 would have been better but it is what it is as they say.

I really appreciate this so much <3 For now the computer is running okay so once money is a little less tight, I'll invest in some more ram.
