Welsh_Mike Posted February 18, 2021 ID:1439716 Share Posted February 18, 2021 Hi, I use MalwareBytes Privacy as my VPN. It is the only VPN I have ever had on this machine. It is running at latest version. However I have noticed a error message on the PC with the following text - "WireGuard Tunnel doesn't have a driver" Checking around, WireGuard Tunnel turns out to be a VPN. As I haven't loaded it (nor indeed ever heard of it) I wonder if it is a bolted-in service made use of by MalwareBytes Privacy? If it is, I will stop worrying about it. If it isn't I think I need to do a bit more digging around my PC. Cheers Mike Link to post

Yes it is part of Malwarebytes Privacy but you should not have the error you listed. Can you please collect and upload as an attachment the diagnostic data using our MBST? Download and run the Malwarebytes Support Tool Accept the EULA and click Advanced tab on the left (not Start Repair) Click the Gather Logs button, and once it completes, attach the zip file it creates on your desktop to your next reply Link to post

If that does not correct the issue then please run the MBST tool again and post back new logs and I'll review further for you. And still have the error messages. BTW, the Clean Tool's invitation at the end is for a re-install of MalwareBytes, not Privacy, and that proved to be a pain the first time round as it rejected my Licence code as being for the wrong item. I don't use the main MalwareBytes product, only Privacy. Anyway, here is the zip file again, together with a screen dump of part of Device Manager showing a host of errors for MBTun Userspace Tunnel, Wintun Userspace Tunnel and the previously reported WireGuard Tunnel. In January, after one of the Privacy upgrades, my system became quite unstable whenever I started Privacy whilst listening to a BBC radio (football commentary) stream. The system bluescreened many times. I just got used to it in the end and didn't use Privacy whilst streaming. And then, another upgrade of the software came through and it has behaved itself since then. The BBC still doesn't like me using the software and throws up messages to the effect of "Not allowed in your Region", when I try some connections even though the VPN service I use is London! Perhaps all those left over tunnels come from that period. Mike P.S. Off to bed now (its 22:42 here in the UK). So will pick up this thread in the morning. Thanks again. Link to post

Can you please run the following for me and after I get some rest I'll post back further instructions. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop. Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer. Press the Scan button. It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply. I have lost count of how many times I did that in the 80's and 90's. My first coding was in Fortran on a mainframe and in assembler for a Zilog Z-80 chip. Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted February 19, 2021 Root Admin ID:1439955 Share Posted February 19, 2021 (edited) Hi Mike Yes, I've been doing IT Support now for about 30 years and still love working on this stuff 😁 STEP 1 Please download our latest MBST tool and do the Clean Removal but do not allow the program to install Malwarebytes main program. https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mbst STEP 2 After the reboot please go to Control Panel, Programs, Programs and Features and locate and uninstall the following if found Wintun-Windows Malwarebytes Privacy VPN Tunnel Driver Then restart the computer again. STEP 3 Now open Device Manager and on the menu click on View and enable Show hidden devices and take a new screenshot of what is left over there please. STEP 4 NOTE: You may need to temporarily disable your real time protection from BT Cloud for Windows or BT Virus Protect which is a dumbed down version of McAfee so that it does not prevent the tool from running. Then download the attached files SCRIPT.TXT and FIXLIST.TXT save them both to the same location where you have the FRST64.exe program "C:\Source Files\MalWare Bytes" Once both files are saved run the FRST64.exe program and wait a few seconds for it to check for updates. Then click on the FIX button and let it run. It may take a few minutes to complete. After it has completed running it will create the following new log files. Please attach those on your next reply. You can send me a Private Message with them if you like. If all ran well you should find all of the following files in your folder where FRST64 is located. Worked at a few different shops including some off-road racing. Then worked for Volvo North America before I switched over to working in Electronic Animation and Ride Control, then on to Computer Support Link to post

I have always had a soft spot for Volvos. We had a 240 Estate, a 240 Saloon, a 940 Estate (that we bought at 100,000 miles and sold 10 years later at 210,000 miles), an XC90 and currently have an XC60. In fact I think we have only driven other makes for 4 years in the last 41. The electronic animation & ride control bit sounds interesting. My path has been rather more mundane, though I did leave what you would call High School before taking my exams in the late 1960's to become a roadie with local bands. But that spluttered out after the band had a very lean time and I joined the Government service as a stop gap. And then 40 years and lots of stuff passed. My early IT career (as was loads of people's in those days) included coding, installing and repairing hardware, customer support and training, and anything else you could think of. Gradually there was more specialisation, but I ended up doing half my career in ICT management. It was fun though, and always a joy to get out of meetings and wrestle with a thorny problem.
