Blue Screen Death more frequent and longer to recover

Recommended Posts

Hello  I am a premium user. Have used Malware bytes for years without issues. I am running Windows 7But for the last week or so have been getting Blue Screen Death crashes regularly and they are taking longer to recover.

What I have done so far:

1- Cleared all temp files

2- Ran Disk Check (no errors found)

3- Ran System File Checker (no issues)

4- Ran a Memory Check (no issues)

5- Updated all my drivers with Driver Booster 8

After all that still getting Blue Screen Death Crashes.

6- Checked the Crash Dump with WhoCrashed

Result: mwac.sys Malwarebytes KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

That is why I am here.

I always run Auto Update so I assume that I have the latest version. So to confirm I have uninstalled and reinstalled Malwarebytes. From what I can see it is exactly the same version I uninstalled. I have attached a screen shot of the About Page.

On a side note latest version has been hanging on me when I try to open from tray or any location. After the un-install and reinstall things seem to be faster?

I have also attached a copy your SysnativeFileCollectionApp file you require for diagnostic.

Please help!

Regards,

Jerry

Please collect and upload as an attachment the diagnostic data using our MBST?

  • Download and run the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • Accept the EULA and click Advanced tab on the left (not Start Repair)
  • Click the Gather Logs button, and once it completes, attach the zip file it creates on your desktop to your next reply

We are in freezing Toronto suburb locked down for no reason.

We have 4-6 inches of snow on the ground now. The most since 1985.

As for your log. I would suggest uninstalling the following and restart the computer.

Spybot - Search & Destroy

7-Zip 18.06

Adobe AIR

Adobe Shockwave Player

Bonjour

Java 8 Update 251
Java 8 Update 281

And everything from IObit

When I envied your weather, did not look at the forecast ... just assumed you were in the 70s ... and not going through a record snow storm, WOW. I checked you forecast and road conditions ... you guys are not having fun. There probably is no snow removal equipment or salter and with the sudden drop in temps, everything is freezing up ... I see tons or road closures there. Winter nights can get cool so I assume you guys have furnaces?? Here its going down to 12 tonight, with 12 inches of snow ... pretty normal night ... snow removal contractors are working for there money this year, as they take flat rates weather it snows or not. Hang in there ... good news is you will see 70 temps next week. We wont see that till May LOL!

Thanks almost done, using iObit to uninstall all. iObit seems to be a great software getting all files when uninstalling. Did you mean uninstall iObit entirely using control panel uninstall? If so, anything like iObit I can use without conflict?

Was the mwac.sys Malwarebytes KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED replaced when I reinstalled MWB and no longer causing issues?

You are correct, We do not have or usually need the equipment. All we have are salt and gravel to put down.

They were caught red handed a few years back stealing Malwarebytes databases. I would not use any software from company's with those ethics.

Great thanks for the info re: iObit I will delete it. Not much out there that is not corrupt including Google, Media, Governments and the internet in general, as we are witnessing daily. Do you know of anything that I could replace it with?

Do you want me to run another Diagnostic afterwards?

Thanks again for the help!

Could not remove iObit as it will not Uninstall. Not causing me problems but I do not like that.

So you were unable to remove the following? Do they still show in add/remove programs?

Advanced SystemCare 12

Driver Booster 8

IObit Uninstaller 10

Useless system optimizer. Uninstall and do not use any "optimizers". They can cause more issues than they are supposed to fix.

All drivers are free from the mfg of the hardware. Should not use 3rd party programs or even pay for one.

Uninstall it. There are better uninstallers out there.

Sorry I do not sit on the computer researching things always, do some reviews and go by what people are saying. I know your company is not in good terms with these software and compatibility can be issues.

Advanced SystemCare 12 (not sure what this is) Uninstalled did not install so no problem

Driver Booster 8 (purchased this to update drivers)   Uninstall

Is there nothing out there that will automatically keep your drivers up to date with manufacturer drivers.  Alot of drivers out to date and I don't have time to sit for hours figuring all out, can you give me a hand on something that can handle this even if not yours?

IObit Uninstaller 10 will not uninstall any suggestions?

Same here please tell me what good replacements for this would be in your opinion? Also

Drivers are for the most part "if not broke don't fix". Looks like there are no actual "approved by gigabyte" drivers for the board since 2016 and the last BIOS update was released in 2018.

Funny an uninstaller will not let you uninstall it. I use Geek uninstaller. It is portable and does a great job.

Over the past few years, Microsoft has been working much more closely with hardware vendors to get the latest drivers to make them available through Windows Update, so unless there is a major issue with a particular driver or you're doing troubleshooting, you should be able to keep your drivers stable using Windows Update.  The only exception might be graphics drivers if you use a discrete display adapter/GPU from NVIDIA or AMD, as those vendors provide very frequent driver updates for the sake of stability, performance improvements for games, and to support their latest hardware releases.  Intel is now only providing DCH drivers and recommends getting the latest drivers from your system manufacturer/OEM (for a custom built system using a Gigabyte motherboard, that would be Gigabyte) and through Windows Update.

I went installed all Windows updates that were not installed. 3 Still need installation but will not install after all this started with the MWB conflicts going to Blue Screen all was running smoothly. I am sure I do not know all there is to do about drivers and other software. My computer guy kept telling me to get rid of MWB as it is a virus and wanted me to install Kaspersky. I had many problems with Kaspersky and used MWB instead with no problems.

Because of my fiddling around after this Blue Screen episonde, now computer says Windows 7 build 7601 is not genuine and have a black screen in the background. Now have to go to my IT guy to do something. He will probably install Windows 10. Anyhow I know things happen and upgrades need to be done ... just a really bad time. Any suggestions?

What i meant to say " is everything else I am using alright" ? So thanks for the feedback on Windows 10. Use to have a person I dealt with at Bleeping Computer many years ago much like you. Reached out to him from time to time or when I had problems. We would run diagnostics and he would give me recommendations on software/system/tools to use keeping me running or fixing problems when they happened ... MWB was one of the tools he introduced me to. Just have not time to play with things any longer.

How do I upgrade my system to Windows 10 for free? Does it preserve my desktop and files as they are? Any issues you know of when updating?

Had two Blue Screens just now so the problem is still there, but when I run whocrashed tool it shows this and not the recent crash:

On Sat 13/02/2021 6:36:31 PM your computer crashed or a problem was reported
crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\021321-47361-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: mwac.sys (0xFFFFF88006215753)
Bugcheck code: 0x1E (0xFFFFFFFF80000003, 0xFFFFF88006215753, 0x0, 0xFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFB)
Error: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\mwac.sys
product: Malwarebytes Web Protection
company: Malwarebytes
description: Malwarebytes Web Protection
Bug check description: This indicates that a kernel-mode program generated an exception which the error handler did not catch.
This might be a case of memory corruption. This may be because of a hardware issue such as faulty RAM, overheating (thermal issue) or because of a buggy driver.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: mwac.sys (Malwarebytes Web Protection, Malwarebytes).
Google query: mwac.sys Malwarebytes KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

I did another scan with your tool after crash just now and attached it ... if it even helps.

The store that installed windows for me and from what I remember he said he had bulk license from MS.

You have a  problem. There is no bulk licenses. Each computer built by small shops should have installed Windows from an OEM disk and the license sticker is to be affixed to the case.

Do you have a license sticker on the case or were you given the disk and key?

Hello @adamsapple20

Can you please provide us the following 2 files:

C:\Windows\Minidump\021321-47361-01.dmp and

C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP

You can use something like https://wetransfer.com/ to upload the dump file and send it across.

Also, can you also see what happens when you disable NordVPN and run Malwarebytes. Do you still see the BSOD when NordVPN is disabled ?
