Researchers at the University of Maryland have turned ordinary sheets of wood into transparent material that is nearly as clear as glass, but stronger and with better insulating properties. It could become an energy efficient building material in the future.

Neato, the flexibility of wood compared to glass is likely another benefit.  It might be useful for things like flexible displays and coverings for phones and other personal devices.  Very cool.

Yeah, anything that avoids using more petroleum/plastics is a good thing, especially if it's something which can be replenished like wood.
