i'm kidding but I am upset that he downloaded online games, programs, and probably porn when he SAID he would not!  I know anyone can get infected but knowing that there are certain types of sires where it is more likely I asked him not to go to them.   After I found I was infected he admitted to going to them - I should have known better - oh well, my fault!

I love him.

Hiya Carli and welcome to Malwarebytes,

Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop or location where you ran FRST from.

NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST or FRSTEnglish, and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system that cannot be undone.

Run FRST or FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt) or wherever you ran FRST from. Please attach or post it to your next reply.

Note: If the tool warned you about an outdated version please download and run the updated version.

NOTE-1: This fix will run a scan to check that all Microsoft operating system files are valid and not corrupt and attempt to correct any invalid files. It will also run a disk check on the restart to ensure disk integrity. Depending on the speed of your computer this fix may take 30 minutes or more.

NOTE-2: As part of this fix all temporary files will be removed. If you have any open web pages that have not been bookmarked please make sure you bookmark them now as all open applications will be automatically closed. Also, make sure you know the passwords for all websites as cookies will also be removed.

The following directories are emptied:
  • Windows Temp
  • Users Temp folders
  • Edge, IE, FF, Chrome and Opera caches, HTML5 storages, Cookies and History
  • Recently opened files cache
  • Flash Player cache
  • Java cache
  • Steam HTML cache
  • Explorer thumbnail and icon cache
  • BITS transfer queue (qmgr*.dat files)
  • Recycle Bin

Important: items are permanently deleted. They are not moved to quarantine. If you have any questions or concerns please ask before running this fix.

Hi Kevin. thanks for your post! I'm sorry  I haven't gotten back to you till now.  On Friday, while I was RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of applying the fix you recomended I was dragged to a beach house for a Super Bowl weekend.  Don't get me wrong - it was a great time (from what I remember) but it was a bit of a hassle.  My team wasn't in it and  - my computer was STILL MESSED UP.  I suppose I could've "fixed" it at the house but I wanted to make sure I did it right and I didn't want to use it till I knew it was ok. (By the way, like I said, on Friday I had started to run the scans. and did the  "First 64/Fixlist.txt" and even though it seemed to run fine it didn't erase the items in the recycle bin or the cookies.  So, I used the CrapCleaner program to delete them and CC supposed to clean other things too like the registry and temp files, etc,  I hope it was allright,    I think between the two programs I got everything but I'm not sure. )   Anyhow, I think I did all the scans twice as I'm not sure what I did on Friday -  I'm posting the last scans I did below.  Please take a look and tell me everything's ok now.

I calmed down and know this infection thing can be fixed but I don't want to go through this again.  So until he gets older - my nephew is banned from using my stuff! I know I risk my "cool aunt" status but at least it might keep me from getting arrested for beating a minor, becoming an alcoholic, and having someone in Russia using my credit cards!

Thanks again,

Hi Kevin, sorry I took a couple days to get back but I wanted to see if my computer would show any indication it was still infected or when operated it behaved in a strange way.  In addition I ran a few different online scanners - they all came back clean and the puter is running fine.  Being impoverished I looked to find a free virus protection program.  I know Windows 10 has a built in VP program but I'd read that some other brands were slightly better.  I wanted one that has a high detection rating and doesn't have those constant nagging popups to upgrade.   I wasn't concerned things like password or URL protection, or other advanced features.  I settled on Bitdefender but I wasn't able to install it despite trying ALL the all recommendations on how to do it.  So, for now I'll stay with the Windows Defender program and consistent to keep it updated.

Kevin, I can't tell you how relieved I am by knowing that any personal/banking/critical information isn't being read by Igor or Yang Cho!    I don't have much so what I DO have I have to be especially careful where it goes!     I haven't tried yet but I'd like to make a small donation.  It won't be much but please don't think it's in direct correlation to my gratitude.   I saw you have a Paypal icon - Ia that a link to your account?  If so, can I just click it?

Thanks again!!!!

Hiya Carli,

Regarding security I use Windows Defender myself, paired with Malwarebytes Premium is as good as it gets..

Donations are not compulsory, the button is only there if you can make it... Please do not feel obliged.. If you have no remaining issues or concerns we can clean up..

Right click on FRST here: E:\Downloads\FRST.exe and rename uninstall.exe when complete right click on uninstall.exe and select "Run as Administrator"

If you do not see the .exe appended that is because file extensions are hidden, in that case just rename FRST to uninstall

That action will remove FRST and all created files and folders...

Hi Kevin, so far so good.  Isn't Malwarebytes Premium a yearly subscription?  I'd still like to get a different Anti Virus but the more I read about different offerings the better I feel about Windows Defender.   Instead of Windows Firewall I'm using the Zone Alarm Firewall - what do you think?

I'm trying to follow your last directions and am I supposed to click on the Frst download on THIS page or is it supposed to be ON MY computer? (I don't have a FRST.exe - but a FRST64.exe).  I know the question sounds stupid but I tried clicking the one on THIS page (nothing) so I tried right clicking the FRST64.exe on MY computer and didn't get an uninstall option.  Consequently I didn't proceed yet with the other steps.   Forgive me, I know it's silly but you've been so helpful and understanding and only with your guidance and patience have I been able to come this far - I DON'T want to mess it up now.

Yep, I can tell you're a Kevin - same name as my step-father - he's a good guy, and a great person!

Thanks again,

Hiya Carli,

Right click on FRST64.exe on your PC, select Rename then rename to Uninstall.exe if you do not see .exe just rename to Uninstall

When finished renaming right click on Uninstall or Uninstall.exe and select "Run as Administrtator" that will remove FRST and all saved files and folders...

Regarding security, my own set up follows:

Malwarebytes have an extension for Chrome and Firefox, I highly recommend this extension. Also is free so well worth installing:

Windows own Firewall - http://www.thewindowsclub.com/how-to-configure-windows-10-firewall

Windows Defender - https://www.howtogeek.com/220232/how-to-use-the-built-in-windows-defender-antivirus-on-windows-10/ (For Windows 8 and above)

Microsoft Security Essentials - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5201 (For Windows 7 and below.)

Malwarebytes Premium - https://www.malwarebytes.com/premium/ Works very well with Defender or MSE.. Obviously the paid for version is required for realtime protection.

UnChecky - https://unchecky.com/ helps to stop unwanted extras when installing certain free software..

Panda USB Vaccine - https://www.pandasecurity.com/usa/homeusers/downloads/usbvaccine/ Protectes your system when USB devices are plugged in...

uBlock Origin for my Browsers: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ublock-origin/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm?hl=en

PatchMyPC, keep all your software upto date - https://patchmypc.com/home-updater#download

All the above are free except for Malwarebytes Premium.....

Not sure if you`ve heard of software by AOMEI, I use the pro versions. One of two freeware versions I recommend for you is Aomei One Key Recovery, the free version is more than adequate. Its a fully automated service that creates its own hidden Recovery Partition that is available at Boot. The partition holds a full image backup of your C:\ Drive, so if you have major problems you can revert back to that image by selecting the chosen key at boot.

The second one is Aomei Backupper Standard, again free version is more than adequate for you. Make sure to read up on these programs at Manf Website before installing and using...

The name Kevin is a boy's name of Irish origin meaning "handsome". Kevin was derived from the name Caoimhín, which originated from the Irish elements coém, meaning “handsome,” and gein, “birth.” The feminine name Caiomhe, anglicized as Keeva, comes from the same origins.

Kevin is a popular name among the Irish, those of Irish descent, and many more. ... The spiritual meaning of the name Kevin is otherworldly, philosophical, intuitive, intellectual, and meditative.
