Possibly malicious zip file downloaded

Recommended Posts

Hi,

A strange zip file appears to have downloaded itself on my phone. I do not know its source or if its important. The name of the file is 'on-device-model.zip' and the only reference to something similar I can find is to do with developers and machine learning ! As to why I have received this zip file I haven't a clue.

I am obviously suspicious of this zip file as it might contain malicious files. I sent the file as an attachment on an email to my PC, downloaded it and scanned the file with Windows Defender which detected 4 files but no threat. I did the same with Malwarebytes (Not sure if MBAM scans zip files as it just listed 1 item and no threat).

I am still very wary of opening this zip file and what it might contain. Maybe the safest thing to do is just delete this zip file.

Would welcome some advice and whether anyone has come across this type of file before ?

                                                                                                                                                               Regards

@Munchkin The same thing happened to me 2 days ago. Do you get to know what this file is in the end? Can't find any information regarding this. Only this thread comes up in Google. I can't seem to find the find on my phone directories though... I just started a file search through Windows but it's taking ages to complete.

Hi Dr Moreau,

I sent the file in a private message to the staff member who analysed it. It was not malicious and just contained some text. Not sure if I actually opened it or just deleted. Never discovered where it came from or what it was about. Mystery.

Just forgot about as had no further issue.
