Potential Infection

For the past couple of days I’ve been getting malware bytes pop ups blocking websites etc.

in one of them, Avast was mentioned as riskware and I was wondering if you  believe I have an infection (or Bitcoin miner)

I have included the log file from the latest block that malwarebytes showed in jpeg.

I have to wonder if you have posted in the correct forum. This is for help with removal of malware from a macOS system, but from what I can see it would appear that the detections took place in a Windows environment (C drive) and a Windows application (AvastSvc.exe). If I'm correct I'll have an admin move your posting to the correct forum for you.

I also wonder if you experienced this using a BrowserGuard plugin or the Malwarebytes application.

Hello, 

I’m really sorry, yes it’s windows.  I thought I posted it in the windows forum. Should I delete and post it there? Also, I have the premium trial, not sure if browserguard is included in that.

Thanks for getting back to us. You are not able to delete this post, and I expect the admin to be by shortly to move it or if you are in a rush you can just copy and post to the Windows forum.

BrowserGuard is a separate plugin available for Chrome and Firefox browsers, so we now know that you are talking about the Malwarebytes app feature.

Hello, thank you for the reply. I usually use my account signed out and with the sync off (when I log in), do I still need to complete this? Also, does avast have anything to do with the detection I posted, it mentioned riskware. Thank you a lot

Generally speaking a clean up of Google Chrome is always a good thing from a security point of view.

You do not need to do it, it's only a recommendation. When or if you'd need to do it is if the detection specifically comes from Google Chrome as antivirus security programs can no longer inject a repair into the process as they used to be able to. So, one needs to manually clean them up.

If Avast is the one telling you their is an issue then you should update Avast and do a full system scan and remove what it finds. Then see if that resolves the issue.

If that does not help then we can run additional scans to see what's going on

Avast (avastSvc.exe) was mentioned in the malwarebytes log I posted next to processpath, that’s why I’m asking if there’s anything with avast. Avast hasn’t mentioned anything about infection/warning. I’ve run full scans with malwarebytes but nothing was found. I’ll try the google chrome advice you’ve given me.
