extremely low-speed and unstable internet connection (Iphone => Mac)

I've got an iphone 11 max pro (ios 14.2) and MacBook Air (macOS Big Sur 11.1). When I access the internet on my iphone everything is just fine, everything works as expected but when I connect my mac to the iphone's hotspot, I get a problem - all sites load extremely slow, sometimes they even fail to load altogether and sometimes the connection gets lost, then I have to reconnect but the quality of the connection doesn't get better. 

I tried to connect another machine of mine, it runs linux and everything worked like a charm, sites load fast, the connection is stable, the up/down speeds are as expected. So, seems like the problem is with the mac. I believe it might be caused by some virus or malware, I tried scanning the system with CleanMyMac but it didn't find any threats...

 

Is there any way to find out what is causing this issue? I'd appreciate it immensely.

What were the results of running Malwarebytes for Mac on your MBA?

This is highly unlikely to be due to any malware on your Mac, and even less likely to be due to malware on your iPhone. I can't say what the problem might be, but I'd recommend contacting Apple support to see what they can advise:

I'd tell you to make sure both devices are on the latest versions of the system, but you've already got that covered.

It was "No items detected". Everything seems to be in order.
