hi everybody i just got a brand new pc for Christmas and as per this article

That's a pretty old article and I don't think any recent systems are known to ship with malware, however we can definitely provide some tips on helping to check your system and keep it clean and your data safe.

First off, Malwarebytes, obviously.  You can get the latest version from here.

Next, ADWCleaner, a scanner that specializes in adware and the kind of preinstalled junk that you might not want on your new PC (the kind of stuff that comes preinstalled on systems which is not necessarily malicious, but not great for system performance and generally not needed).  You can grab the latest version of ADWCleaner here.

You can also scan with the built in Windows Defender AV which is included with Windows 10.  Details on how to do so can be found in this article.

I would also recommend taking a look at our Tips to help protect from infection.  It's a lot of info, so I recommend not trying to go through all of it at once.  Just take your time and come back to it as you have time and you'll pick up plenty of good info on tools and methods for helping to safeguard your systems and your data.
