joem Posted December 25, 2020 ID:1429110 Share Posted December 25, 2020 windows 10 ver 2004 malwarebytes free 4.3.0.98 I recently updated malwarebytes on my computer from some old version. Now when I look at active services I see mbamservice.exe and mbamtray.exe running 100% of the time. Even though mbam is only run occasionally. On demand, obviously, since it's the free version. This is not the way it used to work. No problem, I think. I go into the admin account and go to services. I select Malwarebytes Services. I attempt to disable auto startup. It doesn't work! What? Permission problem even though I'm running as admin! My * computer! Why does malwarebytes prevent me, as admin, from setting mbam the way I want to? Solution exile360 Posted December 25, 2020 Solution ID:1429112 Share Posted December 25, 2020 Greetings, The self-protection module is what's preventing you from terminating the service that way. First, since you want to use Malwarebytes in free mode, open Malwarebytes and deactivate the premium trial as described in this support article. Next, go to the Security tab and and toggle the option under Windows startup to the off position so that Malwarebytes doesn't launch automatically when your computer boots. Finally, whenever you run Malwarebytes manually to perform a scan, once it completes right-click on the Malwarebytes tray icon and select Quit Malwarebytes and select Yes if prompted by User Account Control so that all of Malwarebytes' processes and drivers will be removed from memory. I hope this helps, and if there is anything else we can assist you with please let us know. Thanks 1
