Quarantine & removal does not work

Recommended Posts

@Flaws39 You'll have to wait for the Android team to address your problem. This is the forum for macOS.

@Maintoshman You can help us by giving us some details here. What did the scan find? A screenshot of the log would help. What version of macOS and Malwarebytes are you using? Have you gone through the steps outlined in this posting pinned to the top of the forum:

But I've waited 10 hours for a very very simple question

I don't know how things are on the Android forum, but Mondays are always very busy here trying to catch up on weekend postings and it's not unusual to have to wait 24-48 hours for staff support even on a normal work day. Those of us users who help out here are unlikely to have any idea what goes on in Android land let alone be able to troubleshoot what you are seeing.

Hi Alvarnell - thanks for your help.

Mac OS: 10.14.6 Chrome:87.0.4280.88

Screen capture of files to quarantine is attached. Not sure if there is a "log" over and above that. Let me know if and where it is.

I had been getting "Managed by..." and following the tricks above, eliminating a profile, fixed that problem.

I can not change my default search engine. See attached and Malwarebytes keeps finding the same threat and it will quarantine and I can clear the quarantine but it keeps coming back,

Thanks

Forgot to add that although I DID reinstall Chrome - I did NOT Nuke it. I am really afraid I will lose the bookmarks and open tabs. I will do it if other options don't work but would like it to be a last resort

Hi Treed!

I updated malwarebytes 4.6.12>scan found 7> quarantined and asked for restart>scanned again and found 2 threats and restart>third scan was clean, no threats but I still can not change my default search engine in Chrome

I will go through the process and software Adas sent me tomorrow.

Thanks all of you for your help!

Please take a look at the page linked to by alvarnell:

https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/236261-how-to-remove-the-after-effects-of-adware/

This has information to help with post-infection cleanup, to help you fix configuration changes made by adware that Malwarebytes for Mac cannot automatically fix for you.
