Maurice Naggar Posted December 8, 2020 ID:1426035 Share Posted December 8, 2020 Thank you for the reports. By the way, I notice that this Windows 7 system has Kaspersky antivirus installed. Just curious, have you done a scan recently with the Kaspersky antivirus ? . The reports from F R S T do indicate & show that there are leftover traces of a old setup of Chrome browser. This can be cleaned up with a custom script. The first thing to do before that, is to set this Windows 7 to show all folders, including all Hidden & system folders. Do like in OPTION ONE on this article at Sevenforums https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/394-hidden-files-folders-show-hide.html . The system will be rebooted after the script has run. . This custom script is for VladDegtiar only / for this machine only. Close and save any open work files before starting this procedure. If there are any CD / DVD / or USB-flash-thumb or USB-storage drives attached, please disconnect any of those. The custom Fix script is going to be used by the FRST.exe tool which you have on your Desktop folder. Please save the (attached file named) FIXLIST.txt to the DESKTOP folder Start the Windows Explorer and then, to the Desktop folder. RIGHT click on FRST.exe and select RUN as Administrator and allow it to proceed. Reply YES when prompted to allow to run. to run the tool. If the tool warns you the version is outdated, please download and run the updated version. IF Windows prompts you about running this, select YES to allow it to proceed. IF you get a block message from Windows about this tool...... click line More info information on that screen and click button Run anyway on next screen. on the FRST window: Click the Fix button just once, and wait. PLEASE have lots and lots of patience when this starts. You will see a green progress bar start. Lots of patience. This run here should be fairly quick. If you receive a message that a reboot is required, please make sure you allow it to restart normally. The tool will complete its run after restart. When finished, the tool will make a log ( Fixlog.txt) in the same location from where it was run. Please attach the FIXLOG.txt with your next reply later, at your next opportunity Please know this will do a Windows Restart. Just let it do its thing. Do let me know how things are overall, after all this. Sincerely. Fixlist.txt
VladDegtiar Posted December 8, 2020 Author ID:1426072 Share Posted December 8, 2020 No, I didn't scan with Kaspersky. It takes too long on my weak PC, and usually Kaspersky does not find the viruses that adwarecleaner finds. Therefore, I decided that this action is not a priority. Your way helped me. Adwarecleaner did not detect this virus. Thank you) My FixLog: Fixlog.txt
Solution Maurice Naggar Posted December 8, 2020 Solution ID:1426106 Share Posted December 8, 2020 The original issue was not a virus. It was classified as a P U P (Potentially Unwanted type). I am glad to know that the issue is now gone. Is there something else that you need at this point ?
Maurice Naggar Posted December 9, 2020 ID:1426288 Share Posted December 9, 2020 Hello. The Malwarebytes for Windows version needs to be updated to the very latest Component & version. Lets have you get updated to the very latest. All program upgrades are at no charge. Start Malwarebytes. Click Settings ( gear ) icon. Now, click the tab marked GENERAL. Look for the button marked "Check for Updates" and click it. Be sure to follow all prompts. Lets be sure it is up-to-date. That will hopefully insure that the program has the very latest Component Update. [ 2 ] In Malwarebytes , we want to do a special scan. Click Settings ( gear icon) at the top right of Malwarebytes window. We want to see the SETTINGS window. Then click the Security tab. Scroll down and lets be sure the line in SCAN OPTIONs for "Scan for rootkits" is ON 👈 Click it to get it ON if it does not show a blue-color . Then scroll down to the section Potentially Unwanted items. We need the next 2 lines ( for P U P & for P U M) to be set to "Always ( Recommended) ". You can make the change by clicking on the down-arrow selection list-control. We want all P U P & P U M to be marked for removal. Next, click the small x on the Settings line to go to the main Malwarebytes Window. Next click the blue button marked Scan. When the scan phase is done, be real sure you Review and have all detected lines items check-marked on each line on the left. That too is very critical. You can actually click the topmost left check-box on the very top line to get ALL lines ticked ( all selected). 👈 🔻 Then click on Quarantine selected. Then, locate the Scan run report; export out a copy; & then attach in with your reply. VladDegtiar Posted December 10, 2020 Author ID:1426328 Share Posted December 10, 2020 Thank you, following your instructions malwarebytes discovered two "threats" that were missing from the previous scan. My scan report: malwarebytes_two.txt
Maurice Naggar Posted December 10, 2020 ID:1426434 Share Posted December 10, 2020 Hello. Thanks for the scan report. That is a good catch. 'Crack" tools are often bundled with malicious malware. Always be careful what yu select to download. I would suggest a free scan with the ESET Online Scanner Go to https://download.eset.com/com/eset/tools/online_scanner/latest/esetonlinescanner.exe It will start a download of "esetonlinescanner.exe" Save the file to your system, such as the Downloads folder, or else to the Desktop. Go to the saved file, and double click it to get it started. When presented with the initial ESET options, click on "Computer Scan". Next, when prompted by Windows, allow it to start by clicking Yes When prompted for scan type, Click on Full scan Look at & tick ( select ) the radio selection "Enable ESET to detect and quarantine potentially unwanted applications" and click on Start scan button. Have patience. The entire process may take an hour or more. There is an initial update download. There is a progress window display. You should ignore all prompts to get the ESET antivirus software program. ( e.g. their standard program). You do not need to buy or get or install anything else. When the scan is completed, if something was found, it will show a screen with the number of detected items. If so, click the button marked “View detected results”. Click The blue “Save scan log” to save the log. If something was removed and you know it is a false finding, you may click on the blue ”Restore cleaned files” ( in blue, at bottom). Press Continue when all done. You should click to off the offer for “periodic scanning”.

VladDegtiar Posted December 18, 2020 Author ID:1427885 Share Posted December 18, 2020 Sorry for the late reply. ESET has detected a threat at "C:\ Windows\ Setup\Scripts\cmdow.exe". I gave him permission to eliminate the cmdow.exe, but now I remembered that this is a safe Windows element. What will be the consequences of this? Do I need to restore him? Which method of restore would be preferable? Scan report below) eset_scanlog.txt
VladDegtiar Posted December 18, 2020 Author ID:1427888 Share Posted December 18, 2020 Oh no, he deleted ActionCenterForms.dll. I read for that is windows system file too.. Same questions: Do need to restore him? And which method is prefable? P.S. Maurice Naggar Posted December 18, 2020 ID:1427912 Share Posted December 18, 2020 the file cmdow.exe is NOT a Windows operating system file. It is not from Microsoft. I am not of the view that you need the file ActionCenterForms.dll. It also is NOT a file from Microsoft. To check your operating system, you can run the Windows System File Checker This procedure will use the Windows System File Checker tool ( SFC ). Open an elevated command prompt window i.e. run Command Prompt as an administrator . It is best to use the Windows Copy ( CTRL+ C ) and paste ( CTRL+V ) for the whole line, as-is To Get the elevated command prompt, press Windows-key + X key and then selected Command prompt ( Admin ) On that command prompt, Copy & Paste this command sfc /scannow and tap Enter-key. Let me know the bottom line results after it has finished the system scan.

Maurice Naggar Posted December 19, 2020 ID:1428053 Share Posted December 19, 2020 Good. I would suggest to download, Save, and then run Malwarebytes ADWCLEANER. Please close Chrome and all other open web browsers after you have saved the Adwcleaner and before you start Adwcleaner scan. Adwcleaner detects factory Preinstalled applications too! Please download Malwarebytes AdwCleaner https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/adwcleaner Be sure to Save the file first, to your system. Saving to the Downloads folder should be the default on your system. Go to the folder where you saved Adwcleaner. Double click Adwcleaner to start it. At the prompt for license agreement, review and then click on I agree. You will then see a main screen for Adwcleaner. ( if you do not see it right away, minimized the other open windows, so you can see Adwcleaner). Then click on Dashboard button. Click the blue button "Scan Now". allow it a few minutes to finish the Scan. Let it remove what it finds. NOTE: When it comes to the section " Pre-installed applications You can skip that. Please find and send the Adwcleaner "C" clean report. In Adwcleaner, click the "Reports" button. Look at the list of reports for the latest date & type "Clean". Double Click that line & it will open in Notepad. Save the file to your system and then Attach that with your reply. That C clean report will be the one with the most recent Date and time at folder C:\AdwCleaner\Logs Thanks. Keep me advised.

VladDegtiar Posted December 20, 2020 Author ID:1428224 Share Posted December 20, 2020 Interesting I did not use Chrome browser recent times (he even not installed), but adwcleaner find this PUP in "saved image as PNG" by "Chrome extension".
Maurice Naggar Posted December 20, 2020 ID:1428232 Share Posted December 20, 2020 (edited) I would advise against restoring anything that was removed by the Adwcleaner. Most of the tools that claim to "boost" performance are junk. Edited December 20, 2020 by Maurice Naggar

Maurice Naggar Posted December 23, 2020 ID:1428856 Share Posted December 23, 2020 Before we do anything, I would like to know whether what you report is something from running Adwcleaner ? and, I gotta have a fresh set of reports. Do have patience while the report tool runs. It may take several minutes. Just let it run & take its time. You may want to close your other open windows so that there is a clear field of view.Download Malwarebytes Support Tool Once the file is downloaded, open your Downloads folder/location of the downloaded file Double-click mb-support-1.80.848.exe to run the report Once it starts, you will see a first screen with 2 buttons. Click the one on the left marked "I don't have an open support ticket". You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next Now click the left-hand side pane "I do not have an open support ticket" You will be presented with a page stating, "Get Started!" Do NOT use the button “Start repair” ! But look instead at the far-left options list in black. Click the Advanced tab on the left column Click the Gather Logs button A progress bar will appear and the program will proceed with getting logs from your computer. Please do have patience. It takes several minutes to gather. Upon completion, click a file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop. Click OK. Then Exit the tool. Please attach the ZIP file in your next reply. Please know I help here as a volunteer. and that I am not on 24 x 7. Help on this forum is one to one. Maurice Naggar Posted December 23, 2020 ID:1428857 Share Posted December 23, 2020 In addition to the note above ^^^^ I need to know for sure from you about the Chrome browser. Chrome is not listed as a installed program from your original FRST report of 8 December. Did you at some point in the past go about deleting some of it ? But even if Chrome is not listed as installed, the report from 8 December does show that there are still parts of Chrome files that are around. I want to know from you, Do you only just use Opera as your default web browser ? If this machine really does not have Chrome browser, we could in the next round remove all remaining left over elements of Chrome. Please provide me the answers to questions abaove. and also run and send the report from preceding message to you here.
