MWB Premium, V4.2.3 — Confused by user interface.

Recommended Posts

Detection history > History shews a number of rows as per screenshot 1.  If one hovers over any of the first five columns in any row, three icons are displayed :  "eye", "down arrow with undercup", "Dustbin".  How is one meant to obtain a gloss for these icons, and how is one meant to be able to click on them ?  Moving the mouse further to the right from column 5 ("Location"), the row highlighting disappears and with it the three icons.

Thanks for posting in the Malwarebytes for Windows Help forum.

If you are having technical issues with our Windows product, please do the following:

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

  • For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
  • For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
  • For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed.
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
  14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
  15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

It looks like you found a bug in the UI; if you restore it down to its original size rather than having it maximized (which can also be accomplished by closing and reopening the UI since it reopens back to its original size and location on screen), you should be able to hover over and click on each of the icons.  The issue with the icons vanishing and not being clickable when maximized is a bug and will be reported to the QA and Product teams to get fixed (thank you for finding and reporting it to us).

With regards to the icons' functions, each icon does the following:

  • image.png.a3bd55f44c14cd0d8bfdeaae22b298db.png - this icon allows you to view the details of the blocked/detected item/history entry, which itself will include controls to be able to export or view the log in the form of a text file as well as the ability to copy it to the clipboard so that you may paste it (for example, if you wanted to report a false positive and needed to copy/paste it here on our support forums for our Research team)
  • image.png.eb8c01b574a9da62b32661a1d3b3f96d.png - this icon allows you to export/save the detailed log in the form of a text (.txt) file; again, useful for reporting false positives or seeking assistance with detections from Malwarebytes Support, a PC repair technician, or malware removal specialist, similar to what you can do in the detailed view above with its export function and copy to clipboard function
  • image.png.2a69dc6d5b88e1a733a85ea2b25cbf11.png - this icon allows you to delete the entry/log from your history; useful if you wish to clear out some space/old entries, or if you had a previous false positive which has since been corrected to remove the false positive detection from your history of detected items

I hope that helps clarify the functions of these controls.  Additionally, if you click the image.png.791f783ed7f2354e21fe32911f254709.png which appears at the top right of the list of detections/entries, it provides you with the option to delete all detections/entries to clear your detection history entirely (again, useful for clearing space and removing old entries if you wish to do so).

If there is anything else we might assist you with please let us know, and if you want to learn more about the features and functions of Malwarebytes you may also refer to the official user guide for Malwarebytes 4 located here in the official support knowledgebase.

D@mn — that is a pretty unfriendly design !  If I open the window at default size, the icon-set obscures the contents of the final column disclosed, but if I increase the width to allow the icon-set to pop up in a pseudo-column of its own, the icons become unclickable.  Nonetheless, many thanks for your help and explanation, Exile, which was/is much appreciated.
