Firefox and crashes with Browserguard addon installed

I keep seeing firefox crashing out when I close it down (I guess we can more call it hanging after exiting firefox). Not always but often enough to annoy me. Without Browserguard installed these hangs do not occur. I can hear my PC revving up and a crash report window will pop up when this happens.

The other addons I have installed are extensions - uBlock origin, NoScript, Personal Blocklist, and theme - Clean Brushed Steel.

Hello @Lollie and welcome back:

The Malwarebytes Staffers/Developers/Experts/Helpers will require two .zipped files to begin a thorough analysis of the system’s issue:

First, please create a troubleshooting Debug Log from the MBG extension:

  1. Close and then open the Firefox browser to first clear the existing MBG debug log file.
  2. Open the Malwarebytes Browser Guard GUI by selecting the Malwarebytes icon in the upper-right of the Firefox extension icons.
  3. Select the "stack of dots" and select "Support" from the pull-down menu.
  4. Select the "Download Debug Logs" hyperlink and a "BG-Logs_v2.2.15_YYYY-MM-DD_nnnnnnnn.jsonl" file will be written to the system's desktop.
  5. Zip the newly created .jsonl file.

Second, please gather additional troubleshooting data with Malwarebytes Support Tool:

  1. Please download the Malwarebytes Support Tool.

  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXX.exe to run the tool.

You may be prompted by the Windows User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Please click Yes to consent.

  1. Place a check-mark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next.

  2. Navigate to the Advanced tab.

  3. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:

  4. Only click the Gather Logs button. Please be patient. The process could take up to several minutes.

  5. Upon completion, click OK.

  6. An archive file named mbst-grab-results.zip will have been written to your system’s Desktop.

  7. Please attach the above .zip file in your next reply to this topic.

Lastly, please attach both zipped files to your next reply to this topic.

Thank you.

I have not seen any logs here, but my personal experience is that I open and close Firefox as needed, watch Task Manager like a hawk, and do not ever see that issue.  I would recommend that you monitor Task Manager when doing what causes these issues.  Make sure that you are watching the PROCESSES tab and look for spikes in CPU or MEMORY usage.  You can click on those categories to sort the display on the usage of whichever category you clicked on.

Okay I'm going to need to reinstall Malwarebytes Browser Guard and we're going to need to wait for issue to manifest again.

Just to further add, I also run Malwarebyes Premium, if that factors in with any of the above extensions causing conflicts.

@gonzo, can you try using the extensions I am using and see if there are any conflicts. I listed the extensions in my OP.

Can you also please collect and upload as an attachment the diagnostic data using our MBST?

  • Download and run the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • Accept the EULA and click Advanced tab on the left (not Start Repair)
  • Click the Gather Logs button, and once it completes, attach the zip file it creates on your desktop to your next reply
