symptoms:

--no icon in tray when booting up

--if i browse to file location and run tray icon, it appears below, but cant start a scan  (start scan grayed out)

--i try to uninstall from control, panel--it fails

--i try to use MWB removal tool (older) it fails

--i try ro reinstall or install home version ( to try and get a good scan thru another method) it says "already running a business version of malwarebytes"

note that the user brought it in saying network was suuuppper slow (it is),  so i am trying to start with a good scan to make sure its not infected.  it does get internet thru wireless and cellular but its currently pulling only .5 meg for speed on either.

i will try the latest removal tool and go from there.  but any other help would be great!

thx all!

It sounds like the program is attempting to update and getting hung up, which explains why the scan button is greyed out.  You might try running Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit to see if it finds anything; it uses the same engine/signatures as Malwarebytes, though its engine hasn't been updated in a while so it may not be able to detect everything that the latest Malwarebytes can.

If we can see the MBST logs or get us FRST logs we can probably assist further @Cleatus

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system.
You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply as well.

Thank you
