Hi,

Thanks for posting in the Malwarebytes for Windows Help forum.

If you are having technical issues with our Windows product, please do the following:

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

  • For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
  • For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
  • For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

Spoiler
  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed.
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
  14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
  15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

Can you please collect and upload as an attachment the diagnostic data using our MBST?

  • Download and run the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • Accept the EULA and click Advanced tab on the left (not Start Repair)
  • Click the Gather Logs button, and once it completes, attach the zip file it creates on your desktop to your next reply

Other than my personal feelings about Avast (could be part of your issue), I am going to assist you in installing the current 1061 Version.

Can you please try this:

1. Download the offline installer from : https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb4_offline

2. Run the installer

Can you please let me  know if that worked ?

good  news … think  the  matter  has  been  resolved.

porthos … as  always,  before  installing  new  software … i  went  ahead  and  first  rebooted  computer.  because  of  my  environment … i  boot  win-10  with  network  cable  detached.  then  typed  my  win-10  pw … and  the  os  boots  to  desktop  as  normal.  still  with  cable  detached,  my  password-manager  initiates … once  opened,  i  then  allow  myself  to  connect  network  cable.

i  also  have,  in  the  past,  allowed  mbam  to  initiate … allowing  it  to  update  it's  reference  files … and,  then  it  commences  with  it's  scan.  once  the  scan  begins … i  then  disconnect  the  cable … and  go  for  my  morning  power-walk.

after  downloading  your  manual-install  file … i  rebooted  win-10  as  normal … but,  decided  on  doing  things  a  bit  different.  plugged  the  network  cable  in … soon  as  the  desktop  appeared.  went  ahead  and  initiated  mbam … no  popup  appeared.  then,  instead  of  hitting  "scan"  on  mbam  interface … i  went  down  to  system-tray  and  chose  for  mbam  to  update.  this  chain  of  events  seems  to  have  allowed  the  update  to  take  place … at  least  partly.

after  full-scan … went  to  settings/about … the  update-pkg  successfully  updated  to  1.0.31016 … however,  the  comp-pkg  did  not  update.  noticing  "check for updates"  option  in  same  frame  and  clicked  on  it … the  program  downloaded  an  update … then  informed  me  the  software  would  have  to  restart.  i  restarted  mbam  after  waiting  30  seconds  of  inactivity … went  to  settings/about … and  the  component-pkg  now  displays  the  latest  version (1.0.1061).

unless  you  insist  on  the  manual  install … am  thinking  we  can  close  the  support  ticket  for  this,  porthos.  if  i  have  further  issues … will  address  them  at  later  time.

in  hindsight … did  another  *.mbst  and  attached  to  this  reply … in  case  you  wish  to  glance  at  the  latest  logs.

thanks  for  your  courtesy  and  time  spent  with  me.

This is your issue. Even the free version of Malwarebytes needs an active network connection before it is opened.

It needs to be connected during a scan as well due to its cloud components during the scanning.

Bottom line, If you open or scan you need an active network connection.

If you have future issues fell free to post again.

Stay safe and best wishes.

errr … thanks  for  the  reply,  advancedsetup … actually,  porthos  helped  set  the  record  straight  with  my  issue … turned  out  to  be  ignorance  on  my  part.  notably,  the  software  has  been  working  fine  ever  since … issue  has  been  resolved.

upon  rec'g  your  reply  just  now … i  looked  around  for  a  "resolved"  button … could  find  nothing  of  the  sort.  also  looked  in  the  website  "announcements" … there  was  indication  of  a  widget  being  enabled  on  09-28 … however,  i  found  no  such  control  in  this  thread  of  mine(firefox 'n brave).  what  i  had  found  earlier  was  a  "heart" … which  i  already  attached  to  porthos'  latest  reply.

perhaps  the  "mark as solution"  widget  was  working  at  one  time … but,  has  since,  been  taken  down  for  one  reason  or  another.  cheers.
