Recommended Posts

Hello

Is there a way to adjust Malwarebytes Premium user interface to present larger - easier for my old eyes.
Malwarebytes AdwCleaner user interface presents easier for old eyes.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for posting in the Malwarebytes for Windows Help forum.

If you are having technical issues with our Windows product, please do the following:

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

  • For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
  • For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
  • For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

Spoiler
  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed.
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
  14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
  15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

Thanks, yes, toggling it to the opposite of the default (in this case, On) is what I was referring to.  Unfortunately I don't know any way to scale it beyond that.  Scaling is tricky because it relies on Windows itself to handle it, and it can be pretty inconsistent as Microsoft's implementation and APIs are pretty complex, so one app may scale perfectly fine, while another may not, and in Windows 10 it's worse as it tries to scale and de-blur everything automatically by default, so the results can vary.  This Microsoft support article describes many of the common problems.  Unfortunately, beyond changing the system scaling and DPI settings, I don't know of any other way to make changes to how Malwarebytes scales as they are using the native Windows methods to allow the OS itself to control it.

Yeah, maybe my post will prompt Malwarbytes Premium engineers to take a look.
AdwCleaner presents large/r - I'm thinking because of my 150% scaling.

Maybe, Malwarebytes engineers want Malwarebytes Premium smaller footprint - smaller attack surface.  IDK

Thanks for your interest and information.

We've gotten other comments on it before, so I know they've looked at it.  I don't know what progress, if any, they've made on it, but I do know that they've made multiple attempts to improve how things scale.  I will note this thread for them though, just in case it prompts them to take another look, and hopefully they will find something new that they can change or do to improve it.

Yes, the difference in Malwarebytes vs ADWCleaner is interesting, and I'll be sure to point it out in my notes to the team as well.  Maybe they can adopt the methods in use in that app to improve the scaling here.

Agree 100%. My DPI is 150%. Monitor native is 2560 x 1440. Stretching the window "should" increase font size.

I've never seen any other application scale the size of text when resizing its window size, and Windows itself definitely doesn't (if your resize the window of any settings applet, control panel item, or Windows Explorer itself, all text remains the same size).  That said, it does scale with DPI, again, according to the native Windows APIs.  I don't know why it doesn't scale up the same as other applications; I just know that the Devs have stated that they are using the native Windows APIs for scaling applications to coincide with Windows' own settings.  I am curious as to why MBST and ADWCleaner appear larger though, and I can only speculate that they must be using a different method for scaling, so I will be putting in a request to scale it the same as they do in order to increase the size.

Dark Theme novelty wore off.  I'm back with Light Theme.

Appreciate+ that you've noted my presentation feedback with the Product team.

Malwarebytes Setup Wizard, Support Tool and AdwCleaner presentation are much more pleasing...to me.
Just saying.

Thanks again!
