Any ideas what I can do?

Can you please collect and upload as an attachment the diagnostic data using our MBST?

  • Download and run the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • Accept the EULA and click Advanced tab on the left (not Start Repair)
  • Click the Gather Logs button, and once it completes, attach the zip file it creates on your desktop to your next reply

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Since I cannot boot the computer at all (just getting a blank screen), can I still use the malware support tool?

I have tried to make a Win10 recovery disk via instructions from this website (https://www.tenforums.com/software-apps/27180-windows-10-recovery-tools-bootable-rescue-disk.html) but had no luck.

Please note that I am not a techie so my know how about computers is limited.

regards

Hello @94315jim

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with booting.

Those instructions are way overkill and quite old as well. Please review the following topic on how to get into the Recovery Mode or Safe Mode
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-boot-advanced-startup-options-windows-10-a.html

You'd want to get to the Command Prompt if possible

You can also try doing a System Restore as well

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5487-troubleshoot-windows-10-failure-boot-using-recovery-environment.html

We will also need you to download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool from a working computer and then copy it onto a USB stick so that you can run it on the affected computer.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system.
You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Save it to your USB thumb drive or external USB drive
  • Once in the Recovery Console, you can run it from the USB drive
  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply as well.

Thank you

Regardless of which tool or method, we need to boot either from a USB stick or get into the Recovery Console or Safe Mode so that we can disable or remove some drivers
