I am using malwarebytes free and all the settings are set for it to not run at startup, however, it still does. I read this in 2019 this same forum the same thing was happening.  I just tried to put it on then reboot then turn it back off and reboot and it was not in my startup. I am not sure this will last can someone give me some more solutions. Thanks

Greetings,

Please do the following so that we may take a look to determine why it continues to run on startup:

  1. Download and run the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Accept the EULA and click Advanced tab on the left (not Start Repair)
  3. Click the Gather Logs button, and once it completes, attach the zip file it creates on your desktop to your next reply

Thanks

I am not sure what to do. Do I download the offline installer  from the link given or do I download the malwarebytes support tool sent by exile360? How does the offline installer work? If I run the  malwarebytes support tool will that change any of my settings? Will that consume space on my computer? Sorry, just reformatted and don't want to make any changes. Yesterday I unchecked  startup with windows rebooted  and  then checked do not start up with windows  and it did not startup today. I am not sure if this will continue on this way or will it come back to my startup. I just want my computer to perform well and I DO NOT WANT MALWAREBYTES TO START AT STARTUP. Please tell me what to do next. Thanks

You can do either. The "free startup takes up very few resources and causes no conflicts or problems.

It may work as expected for months until a new version of Malwarebytes is installed and sets it back to default with a new trial.

Do you have fast start enabled in Windows? If so,

I suggest turning off fast startup in Windows. Then restart.

If things are working how you want them then you do not need to do anything further.

The Premium and Free version use the same installer. Having an activation number from your purchase allows you to activate if for the premium features.
If you simply want it as a free scanner and you've got that set already then you're done.

Thank you @jster2020

Not to be stupid but can I run the offline installer while I am on line?

Yes, you can.  The only difference is that you don't have to have an internet connection to run it as it includes the databases and other files that would normally need to be downloaded by the regular web based installer.  You should still update after installing it though (and it will do so automatically whenever you run a scan) just to make sure it has the latest updates.
