Windows 10 Start menu not working

Recommended Posts

Hi, one of my guest users on my windows 10 computer is not working.  I use this guest as a way to put all my coding software on another profile so it doesn't clutter up my computer.

Today, I logged in and as I pressed the start menu it gives a critical error saying that the

Critical Error

Your Start menu isn't working.  We'll try to fix it the next time you sign in.

Also, it won't let me use command promt with admin privileges on this guest account, but my admin account and main user works just fine.

Any ideas on what it is?

Hello @Protos97

It's possible that your account may have some type of corruption.

Please try the following. Restart the computer.

Then log back into the computer with your Admin level account and run the following.

Click on Start and type in CMD.EXE and when it shows on the menu right click and select "Run as administrator"

Then copy / paste or type in and press the Enter key. It will say it cannot lock the drive. Press the Y key to allow it to run after a restart.

CHKDSK C: /F

Then type in the following

SFC /SCANNOW

Then once that finishes type in the following or copy/paste it

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Then restart the computer and let the disk check run.

Let me know if that seems to correct the issue or not

Thanks

Thanks for the info.

I tried out your instructions as listed above but my start menu still does not work.

It works on my other accounts on windows 10, but not for my coding profile.

Any ideas as to what is wrong?

Please try creating another new user account and then log into that account and see if all works well in that account
