Cannot activate my license key - SSL validation error

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've been trying to activate my license key for MB 4.2.0 but it gives me an error message: "Unable to contact license server. Check your proxy settings or contact system admin for help". The said error message is then followed by: "There was a problem validating SSL certificates. Please launch IE once and then try the operation again."

I am using a VPN (if this info makes any difference) which I tried to disable during the activation process but that didn't help. I also cleared the SSL cache in Internet Explorer settings but that didn't help either.

P.S. I installed Malwarebytes Support Tool and here is the log dump. mbst-grab-results.zip

Any help suggestions are appreciated.

Greetings,

The logs do indicate some code integrity errors.  Please see if a clean install of Malwarebytes helps:

  1. Run the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Accept the EULA and click Advanced tab on the left (not Start Repair)
  3. Click the Clean button, and allow it to restart your system and then reinstall Malwarebytes, either by allowing the tool to do so when it offers to on restart, or by downloading and installing the latest version from here

Please let us know how it goes and if the issue still persists.

Thanks

Good Morning... two things to try...

I see you have NordVPN. Try disabling that and then see if you can register/activate your license.

You can also try changing your DNS to a public DNS server to see if it will activate, for example Google DNS servers 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4

Hi,

It's Surfshark that I'm using, not NordVPN. I uninstalled it completely and attempted to active the license then but to no avail. No success after changing DNS settings either

Thanks for trying that out... the reason I said NordVPN was due to this in your logs:

HKU\S-1-5-21-4155783590-3689258078-1557323860-1001\...\StartupApproved\Run: => "NordVPN"

S3 tapnordvpn; C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\tapnordvpn.sys [44896 2018-06-13] (TEFINCOM S.A. -> The OpenVPN Project)

Well I used to have NordVPN. Hmm, and of course it had to leave some junk behind in the registry..

Thanks for trying to help out.

Hi,

So after a bit of playing around I managed to activate my premium license.

Booting in safe mode with networking and using the key then did the trick.

Thanks, Rim.

I was having the same problem (I think it started after a recent MB update) and booting into Safe Mode with Networking and then trying to activate MB worked for me!

(I was slightly concerned that when I activated the licence in Safe Mode, I could not then activate the 'real-time premium' features. However, when I rebooted back into full Win 10 those real-time features were enabled)
