T_Ronalds Posted September 15, 2020 Author ID:1407674 Share Posted September 15, 2020 Sorry for the delay, was unaware of your response. So I ran procmon from desktop then ran your link for MB. It started installing then just stopped, no reboot or message. I stopped procmon but didn't see any log file created from it. I configured procmon to log to my d:\temp\ drive and rebooted several times, then restarted procmon and MB install link. It didn't reboot. So I stopped logging in procmon and did a manual reboot, which was followed by the two more MB initiated reboots. Got message again saying MB could not be installed. I've bundled up all the results in a couple of zips for you at wetransfer.com, here's the link: https://we.tl/t-BhDZB0hc2u One zip file contains files from c:\windows\temp folder and the other contains files from d:\temp\ (procmon and mbsetup logs). Incidentally, there was an mbamservice.log (WITH an "i" after "mbam") in C:\Windows\temp, nothing without the "i". It's included in the zip.

Maurice Naggar Posted September 16, 2020 ID:1407930 Share Posted September 16, 2020 Good morning. I hope you are doing well. This is to let you know that the internal team at Malwarebytes has filed a defect for this issue & that they are reviewing the new data. At this point, they suggest that you install a older version of tha Malwarebytes for Windows. Here are the steps to follow. First, do one Windows Restart from the Start menu so that Windows is in a new session. This is always a good idea. When the system is settled back in, download and save to the Desktop the program installer from this link Note: Disregard any text verbiage there. Just click the blue Download button and save the file RIGHT-click mb4-setup-consumer- 4.1.2.173-1.0.976-1.0.nnnnn .exe & select “Run as Administrator” to start the Malwarebytes for Windows setup. Follow the installation instructions to complete setup. Watch all of the process. Have lots of patience. Next things to do in the program: In Malwarebytes, click the Settings icon & then click the GENERAL tab. At the section "Application Updates", click to the left ( OFF position ) for both of these 2 lines the line "Automatically download and install updates" the line "Notify me when a new version becomes available" Then close the window. The goal is to stick with this program Version 4.1.2.73 until such time as we advise otherwise ( when there is a more permanent resolution) Please keep us advised. Sincerely. T_Ronalds Posted September 16, 2020 Author ID:1407986 Share Posted September 16, 2020 Installed older version as administrator. Went to successful completion. No reboot required. Turned off both update options. Rebooted computer just to check for issues. None so far. Awaiting further instructions!
Maurice Naggar Posted September 17, 2020 ID:1408141 Share Posted September 17, 2020 OK ! Thank you for all that. Now, we just stay with this version of Malwarebytes for Windows, until such time that the internal team has some other corrective version. This program version will still continue to be able to get regular daily database definitions. It is just that we need for you to stay on this version. We regret the troubles you have had. Sincerely. Maurice Naggar Posted October 15, 2020 ID:1414399 Share Posted October 15, 2020 Bravo. I am very glad to know that your system has been taken care of. Is there anything else that you need at this point ? Yes, I believe there were other Windows 7 systems that may have had the same issue. The very most recent Malwarebytes release should be the cure. Before I let you go, let me suggest to run SecurityCheck by glax24 I would like you to run a tool named SecurityCheck to inquire on the current-security-update status of some applications. Download SecurityCheck by glax24 from here https://tools.safezone.cc/glax24/SecurityCheck/SecurityCheck.exe and save the tool on the desktop. If Windows's SmartScreen block that with a message-window, then Click on the MORE INFO spot and over-ride that and allow it to proceed. This tool is safe. Smartscreen is overly sensitive. Right-click with your mouse on the Securitycheck.exe and select "Run as administrator" and reply YES to allow to run & go forward Wait for the scan to finish. It will open in a text file named SecurityType.txt. Close the file. Attach it with your next reply. You can find this file in a folder called SecurityCheck, C:\SecurityCheck\SecurityCheck.txt PS. If I may ask, why is this machine still on Windows 7 ( which has been out of support by Microsoft since January ) ? You can still get a free upgrade to the current latest release of Windows 10. T_Ronalds Posted October 15, 2020 Author ID:1414464 Share Posted October 15, 2020 Here's the scan results. I'm still on Win7 because I'm an old dog that doesn't like new tricks. My wife has Win10 and I hate using that computer. Tiles and transparency. Just follows the trend of software getting more pretty as opposed to more functional. Like web 2.0. Every website has huge 4k images all over the place with corporate-jargon but no content of value anymore. Looks nice on your iPhone though. Whatever happened to content? Maurice Naggar Posted October 15, 2020 ID:1414467 Share Posted October 15, 2020 You know, don't you, That Windows 7 is no longer eligible for any fixes, since Janaury 2020. What I am trying to convey to you is that your machine will be safer in terms of security by being on Windows 10. and you can tweak Windows 10 to your liking. Your machine can be upgraded at no cost by using the Microsoft Update advisor. You want to be sure to SAVE the download file, ideally to the Desktop. Download & Save the Microsoft tool - click the button marked "Update now" ( near Top of page ) from http://www.Microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 The name of the file is Windows10Upgrade9252.exe Right click the downloaded file and select "Run as administrator". Select the option "Upgrade This PC Now" and the process begins. Answer the questions logically, and when asked "what to keep", ensure that both the OS and Apps & Files are both selected. The procedure requires about an hour or so to complete. Your PC will restart several times. And sometimes it appears to be doing nothing. Be patient. When it is finished, your "sign in" screen will appear. Your PC will be just as it was before the procedure.
