Resolving DNS Host Issue

Last December I noticed I was having a problem with Resolving DNS hosts. Didn't matter for Chrome, Edge or Firefox.  Didn't matter if I was on ethernet with my desktop at work or Wi-Fi on Laptop at home.  Whenever it happened, I would run cmd as Admin and type NETSH winsock reset catalog, and reboot. That would work every time, but I was getting tired of doing it all the time. After 6 months of testing various programs, settings and hardware I had exhausted all the "forum" suggestions and ran across this one: They uninstalled Malware Bytes and haven't had a problem since. Being a longtime customer, I did not want to do this, but I was out of options. I uninstalled the program. Sure enough, the issue stopped.  This problem is far beyond my IT knowledge, but the commonality between the two internet connections is Xfinity. Completely different cable modems. Office has a 1 year old Cisco made VOIP version and Home is standard cable modem that is only 6 months old.  I noticed while gaming with my son that the internet connection would just drop. Not from the router, but from the cable modem itself. We would get kicked out of the game and have to start all over, or sometimes it would just "stutter" and then resume. I reinstalled MB and tested it. Sure enough, after any "drop" while I was online I would start seeing DNS resolving host issues. There must be something in the "MB" that is causing a corruption in the winsock  catalog when a connection is dropped and then re-established. Yes, I even tried turning off the web protection and it still happened. I uninstalled MB and the issue goes away. I would much rather have MB installed than not have it as it's been a wonderful program over the years. Can you tell me if this issue has been identified and resolved?

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

  • For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
  • For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
  • For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed. 
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
  14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
  15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

Sorry to hear about the issues your having. If I am not mistaken the latest version had resolved the issue your seeing, at least for most people.

If you could install the latest version of Malwarebytes and test that version. If it still gives you the issues your seeing please provide the requested logs mentioned above and someone can review them and hopefully solve your issues.

Nope, first thing this morning, resolving host. Had to run the winsock reset catalog  and reboot.  Have not had to do that since I had uninstalled MB. This was the latest version, I downloaded and installed. I downloaded the advanced tools and am uploading the logs. In the meantime, it's uninstalled. My licenses are up for renewal next month. I don't need to renew if it's hindering my PC.
