Consistent Scan Crash, Hasn't Worked Since Install

Hello @ddrextremist247

Please go to Control Panel, Programs, Uninstall and uninstall the following

Bonjour

What exactly is mDNSResponder.exe?

https://www.groovypost.com/howto/howto/what-is-mdnsresponder-exe-and-why-is-it-running/

MDNSResponder, also known as Bonjour, is Apple’s native zero-configuration networking process for Mac that was ported over to Windows and associated with MDNSNSP.DLL.  On a Mac or iOS device, this program is used for networking nearly everything.  On Windows, this process is only necessary for sharing libraries via iTunes and other Mac applications like the Apple TV that were ported to Windows.  Bonjour allows different computers running iTunes to communicate with each other regardless of network configuration, this is because it enables automatic network discovery.

What Is mDNSResponder.exe / Bonjour and How Can I Uninstall or Remove It?
https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/6456/what-is-mdnsresponder.exe-bonjour-and-how-can-i-uninstall-or-remove-it/

Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop or location where you ran FRST from.
NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST or FRST64, and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

Please make sure you disable any real time antivirus or security software before running this script. Once completed make sure you re-enable it.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system that cannot be undone.

Run FRST or FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt) or wherever you ran FRST from. Please attach or post it to your next reply.

Note: If the tool warned you about an outdated version please download and run the updated version.

NOTE-1:  This fix will run a scan to check that all Microsoft operating system files are valid and not corrupt and attempt to correct any invalid files. It will also run a disk check on the restart to ensure disk integrity. Depending on the speed of your computer this fix may take 30 minutes or more.

NOTE-2: As part of this fix all temporary files will be removed. If you have any open web pages that have not been bookmarked please make sure you bookmark them now as all open applications will be automatically closed. Also, make sure you know the passwords for all websites as cookies will also be removed. The use of an external password manager is highly recommended instead of using your browser to store passwords.

The following directories are emptied:

  • Windows Temp
  • Users Temp folders
  • Edge, IE, FF, Chrome and Opera caches, HTML5 storages, Cookies and History
  • Recently opened files cache
  • Flash Player cache
  • Java cache
  • Steam HTML cache
  • Explorer thumbnail and icon cache
  • BITS transfer queue (qmgr*.dat files)
  • Recycle Bin

Important: items are permanently deleted. They are not moved to quarantine. If you have any questions or concerns please ask before running this fix.

The system will be rebooted after the fix has run.

fixlist.txt

Once that has completed please run the following to do a clean removal of Malwarebytes

Uninstall and reinstall Malwarebytes using the Malwarebytes Support Tool

Thanks

Thank you for your help!

After deleting Bonjour, I followed your instructions above but had many issues including FRST64 stalling after 3.5hours of running the 'Fix'. I manually emptied my recycling bin in hopes this would help and it actually completed the 'fix' the second time I ran it. I then did all of the other steps as listed above.

I've run Malwarebytes twice since and it's still crashing. I've re-run mb-check and attached the file.

Thanks for your help with this.

Thank you for the logs @ddrextremist247

For now, please temporarily uninstall Malwarebytes using our MBST tool. However, do not reinstall the program when it asks you. For now decline the offer to reinstall.

Uninstall and reinstall Malwarebytes using the Malwarebytes Support Tool

Then run the following for me please.

SecurityCheck by glax24

I would like you to run a tool named SecurityCheck to inquire on the current-security-update  status  of some applications.

  • Download SecurityCheck by glax24 from here  https://tools.safezone.cc/glax24/SecurityCheck/SecurityCheck.exe
  • and save the tool on the desktop.
  • If Windows's  SmartScreen block that with a message-window, then
  • Click on the MORE INFO spot and over-ride that and allow it to proceed.
  • This tool is safe.   Smartscreen is overly sensitive.
  • Right-click  with your mouse on the Securitycheck.exe  and select "Run as administrator"   and reply YES to allow to run & go forward
  • Wait for the scan to finish. It will open in a text file named SecurityType.txt. Close the file.  Attach it with your next reply.
  • You can find this file in a folder called SecurityCheck, C:\SecurityCheck\SecurityCheck.txt

I updated most of the programs but deleted many that could've been updated as well.

swMSM - Not sure how to delete a hidden program. I deleted reg keys associated with it to delete the program, but the report makes it seem like it's still there.

I've attached a new security check file.

Ran FRST again. After 5.5 hours I assumed the program had locked up so I did a hard reset. The reset triggered the "check disc", which came out fine to my knowledge. It still produced a Fixlog, so I've named it Fixlog1.

To make sure everything went correctly, I reset my computer and booted up in safemode to run FRST again. It completed and reset again and checked the disc. I've attached that fixlog as Fixlog2.

Thanks. Let's go ahead and do one more clean up

So basically the same thing happened as before:

Ran FRST again. After 4.5 hours I assumed the program had locked up so I did a hard reset.

Tried to boot up in Safe Mode and that failed so I did a hard rest again.

The reset triggered the "check disc", which came out fine to my knowledge. It still produced a Fixlog, so I've named it Fixlog1.

To make sure everything went correctly, I reset my computer and ran FRST again. It completed and reset again and checked the disc. I've attached that fixlog as Fixlog2.

If it helps your diagnosis at all, the CPU usage ranges between 10-40 while doing the FIX but the CPU Usage History shows an almost consistent 100% usage. My mouse pointer slows down and nothing responds to a double click on the desktop for minutes/if at all.

The issue is that doing a Reset puts the computer back to a previous point.

Let's try doing some of this manually and see what happens.

Click on Start and type in CMD.EXE and when it shows on the menu right click and select "Run as administrator"

Then type in the following and press the Enter key

SFC /SCANNOW

Then type in the following and press the Enter key

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

Please post back the results of both commands

Let me first say, thank you for sticking with me on this. I really appreciate the help.

Here's what we got:

Click on Start -> then the power button

Then press and hold the Shift key on the keyboard while you press the Restart button

Next, click on Troubleshoot

Then click Advanced Options

Then click on Command Prompt

image.png

Choose your account or an account that has Admin rights and login

Type in the following and you should see a listing with the folder name of Windows in it. DIR C:\

image.png

That just verifies the installation drive is on the C volume.

Now type in the following and press the Enter key and let me know how it goes.

CHKDSK C: /F

If it says it's locked tell it to go ahead and dismount it and run the disk check.

image.png

You won't be able to take any screenshots so just pay attention and let me know the results or maybe take a picture with your phone.

On a good working system the disk check should complete in under 20 minutes. But even if it takes over an hour, please let it run but keep an eye on the time it takes to run and complete and let me know.

Once it has completed you can restart the computer.

Then post back the results and let me know what happens.

Thanks

I'm on Windows 7 and couldn't find an equivalent for your instructions so I ran it on reset. Dismounting wasn't an option. Here's what I got from the cmd.exe:

C:\Windows\system32>CHKDSK 😄 /F
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process.  Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

I typed 'y' and it notified me it would check on restart. I then restarted it and the check disc took 10 minutes or less. I started looking at my phone and when I turned back it was done and I was at the log in screen.

Okay, I'm sorry. Looking at too many logs and I thought you were on Windows 10.

Let's have you run the SFC check manually

Please click on Start and type in CMD.EXE and when it shows on the menu right click and select "Run as administrator"

Then type in the following and press the Enter key.

SFC /SCANNOW

Let me know the results. If it says it cannot complete the task then find and upload the log file directly as an attachment. You don't need to zip it first.

If it does complete successfully then there is no need to attach the log, just let me know.

c:\windows\logs\CBS\cbs.log

Thanks

Are you blocking Windows Telemetry or any other type of blocks in either your Firewall or Hosts file or some other type of proxy?

Are you on VPN ?

It says it's trying to connect to Microsoft to verify for fixing but it cannot reach the site
