I'm having an odd problem, and I don't know if anyone can help, because it's so specific. I'm running windows 7, and I'm trying to use a Wacom Bamboo tablet. I had been using it, previously with no issues, but at some point, the tablet's settings crash Malwarebytes. Essentially, I'm stuck in a situation where my antivirus can't run while the tablet is installed. If somebody can help me I'd very much appreciate it, because I don''t want to have to choose between my computer's security and using my device.

Hello @BombasticAdept

I'm not sure if we can help or not but to start off we'd need to see some logs first.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system.
You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply as well.

Thank you

I've since completely uninstalled the tablet, just so you know. Will you still be able to see where any probleis are occurring without it?

You have some old compromised Java on the computer. Please go to Control Panel, Programs, Uninstall and uninstall

Java(TM) 6 Update 25

You have the following error. You should try to fix if possible

Name: Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad
Description: Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad
Class Guid: {4d36e96f-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
Manufacturer: Synaptics
Service: i8042prt
Problem: : This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)
Resolution: The device is installed incorrectly. The problem could be a hardware failure, or a new driver might be needed.
Devices stay in this state if they have been prepared for removal.
After you remove the device, this error disappears.Remove the device, and this error should be resolved.

Then you have the following Search error

Application errors:
==================
Error: (07/28/2020 01:42:11 PM) (Source: Windows Search Service) (EventID: 3100) (User: )
Description: Unable to initialize the filter host process. Terminating.

Details:
This operation returned because the timeout period expired.  (HRESULT : 0x800705b4) (0x800705b4)

Please review the following.

You have 2 Wacom drivers being loaded. Perhaps best to remove those if you're going to reinstall.

S3 wacomvhid; system32\DRIVERS\wacomvhid.sys [X]
S3 WacomVKHid; system32\DRIVERS\WacomVKHid.sys [X]

The following is a Generic Cleanup so that you can prepare to check and add Windows Updates

Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop or location where you ran FRST from.
NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST or FRST64, and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

Please make sure you disable any real time antivirus or security software before running this script. Once completed make sure you re-enable it.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system that cannot be undone.

Run FRST or FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt) or wherever you ran FRST from. Please attach or post it to your next reply.

Note: If the tool warned you about an outdated version please download and run the updated version.

NOTE-1:  This fix will run a scan to check that all Microsoft operating system files are valid and not corrupt and attempt to correct any invalid files. It will also run a disk check on the restart to ensure disk integrity. Depending on the speed of your computer this fix may take 30 minutes or more.

NOTE-2: As part of this fix all temporary files will be removed. If you have any open web pages that have not been bookmarked please make sure you bookmark them now as all open applications will be automatically closed. Also, make sure you know the passwords for all websites as cookies will also be removed. The use of an external password manager is highly recommended instead of using your browser to store passwords.

The following directories are emptied:

  • Windows Temp
  • Users Temp folders
  • Edge, IE, FF, Chrome and Opera caches, HTML5 storages, Cookies and History
  • Recently opened files cache
  • Flash Player cache
  • Java cache
  • Steam HTML cache
  • Explorer thumbnail and icon cache
  • BITS transfer queue (qmgr*.dat files)
  • Recycle Bin

Important: items are permanently deleted. They are not moved to quarantine. If you have any questions or concerns please ask before running this fix.

The system will be rebooted after the fix has run.

fixlist.txt

Thanks

Thank You. However, I'm currently not ready to preform this action. I have a lot of webpages and logins/passwords saved and right now I don't have time to go through all of them to preserve them. Whenever I'm finally able to get around to it, will this current fixlist.txt be sufficient, or will i need to run a new scan for an updated fixlist file?

The logs show you have not removed Java yet.

You have some old compromised Java on the computer. Please go to Control Panel, Programs, Uninstall and uninstall

Please try to fix your Windows Search - it is showing errors on index.

There is no one size fits all. You may have to use it more than once but in many cases a simple rebuild will fix it.

Did you reinstall the Wacom drivers? I see them loading in the process list

(Wacom Technology Corp. -> Wacom Technology, Corp.) C:\Windows\System32\Wacom_Tablet.exe <2> this is kind of different to see
(Wacom Technology Corp. -> Wacom Technology, Corp.) C:\Windows\System32\WTablet\Wacom_TabletUser.exe

Is the tablet working now or you did not try to reinstall yet ?

Well, we should fully remove the drivers then.

Are there any entries left to remove software for it in Control Panel, Programs, Uninstall ?

Please visit the Microsoft Windows Update and check for updates. Let me know if it finds any updates.

I've uninstalled the device and the drivers. Now, I have two separate Wacom devices; one is a drawing pad, and the other is a full-scale graphics tablet with a screen. I hadn't had any problems in the past, but is it possible that the two sets of drivers started conflicting with one another?

If the devices are not working then I would fully remove all software and drivers. Then check for Windows Updates

Then once all Windows updates are done and the computer restarted try getting just one of the Wacom devices working.

Then if you get that working okay, reboot again and try adding the 2nd device.
